Everyone knows Pirates are superior in every way.

Better equipment, completely ruthless, commit all sorts of cool criminal acts, big ass ships, cool flags, buried treasure, big ass guns.

Ninjas have stealth, and that's pretty much it.

Also they were primarily used as spies, not as assassins. Many of them were believed to be peasants, unallowed to practice true swordplay, and their weapons derived from things they could conceal or hide as tools. They didn't run around with katanas, backflipping all over and shit like that.

Samurai are far cooler than Ninjas, and would have been a better matchup against the Pirates.

pirates also tended to live very well... where as ninjas were generally monks as far as anyone else knew...

Pirates usually called themselves 'merchants' when they came home... thus allowing them to live fat and happy in the open with their booty.

Reminds me of an episode of old Buffy the Vampire Slayer (yes yes, you may laugh)...

It was halloween, and there was a party in some house or another, and someone released a terror demon by accident, after 50 minutes of horrific things happening: the great monster comes forth from its symbol on the floor... closeup shot of the beast ugly horned head... pan out... pan out further... and the demon is 3 inches tall.

After a couple of 'wee cute little demon' jeers by xander, buffy steps on it.


A few hours later, giles is reading up on the demon in some necrotelecomnicon or another, and gasps, saying 'oh god, I should have realised... the text!' everyone is shocked, rushes to giles 'what does it say what does it say??' 'actual size'.

Taru ninjas were horrible though, like they were at all melee. Hit em with one AE then lol as he dies quickly to any real attack with his horrible HP.

Taru had low values in almost all of the stats important to a melee, in addition to the lowest HP pool in the game. People only picked them because they thought it would be cute to see them in a ninja outfit, or with a paladins sword, a dark knight scythe, etc.

We all know cuteness is a horrible thing to base a combatant off of.

Taru PLD's are the best. at level 64 they have nearly as much MP as my hume red mage. sure, Kirin and kirinesque stuff will poke em good, but then, those guys poke ANY PLD good. but with all that MP they more than make up for lack of VIT, and they can keep hate like nobody's business.
Taur ninja's though.... they just suck.
