5)MGS2(ppl hated it, but I loved it.)

Incase you haven't heard of Dues Ex:IW, it was one sweet ass game. Good graphics, perfect physics engine, and every NPC had dialog. Hell, you could even play basketball.

1.The legend of Zelda (nintendo 64)
2.GoldenEye
3.Halo
4.Earthbound
5.Kingdom Hearts

Wtih Kingdom hearts, the beggining and ending were terrific, but in the middle, it got really repetitive. I didnt play it untill a year it was out, due thinking it was really geeky.

My list may be more than 5, since 2bit made the thread and screwed his rule over right away.

1) Final Fantasy 3 (US #3, the SNES one, I don't follow the Japanese #'ering system of this series)

2) Secret of Mana (SNES ... phenomenally fun game, even if the storyline wasn't *quite* up to square standards, that was expected for the trade off for action vs. stereotypical ff style)

3) Dragon Warrior (NES ... one of the earliest and best)

4) Final Fantasy I (fat bastard left a FLOATER)

5) Panzer General (if you never played the original Panzer General turn-based rts, go get it from hotu free, and play the damned thing ... or ask me for it, it's somewhere on my comp; this introduced me to strategy games, and remains enjoyable today, as one of the best ever)

6) Homeworld 1 (the single player story blows you away from the start, and continues throughout; the game was NOT as good as Homeworld 2, but *appeared* better because of its originality, which is why it earns this spot) .... ps, the Homeworld 2 SP was easy prepatch and postpatch; the infinite fleet section on map 4 or whatever gave me no trouble, nor did any other part; gone were the barebones times and rewarding waits and times of hw1

7) Mace: The Dark Ages; this sleeper of a fighting game never gained big acclaim, for reasons unbeknownst to me; more finger-micro and combo-insanity required, I thought, than for any other game; more importantly, immensely smooth transitions between moves .... after playing Mace, games like Soul Edge were horribly bumpy, annoying, and had a "pre-programmed" feel. If you haven't played and mastered Mace: The Dark Ages for N64, do so. I hate fighting games, with a passion, USUALLY. Mace somehow impressed even me so much that I mastered it to the point of beating a genuinely difficult game on highest difficulty without suffering a single hit all game, even from a final boss that cheated. You must master this game to get the real feel for how amazing it truly is. Then find me, and I will execute an insane fatality on you.

8) King's Bounty -- Sega Genesis; pick this up on emulator; the rom is as hard to find as the game was ... an odd game that was part-rpg, part-tbs, part-adventure, and all very different ... turn off the sound; the music gets annoying; it'll suck up hours of time.

I chose these games because the single players took up ridiculous amounts of my time. They aren't necessarily all perfectly refined, or possessing of wonderful stories, etc., but if you haven't tried these games, I highly suggest them. Most of them can be easily found online in ROM form or at the home of the underdogs. If you're in TLSC and haven't at least tried Homeworld 1, go buy it for 9.99 somewhere.
