I noticed a thread getting a little offtopic in another forum, so I decided to make this post.
Boxing. Favorite fighter(s), is the sport tainted for good, and can it be saved?
Discuss.
I prefer middle and welterweight boxing, as heavyweights are simply too slow and not technical enough for my taste. Sadly, I'm out of touch with the sport, more so than I'd like to be .. I don't get to see fights all that often, the last one I saw was Holyfield getting embarassed by that scrub, I can't even remember his name now.

Steve Collins and Marvin Haggler.
two awesome middleweights in their respective times.

Harrison's hard as a coffin nail and twice as sharp. A little slow sometimes however, and his footwork is lacking a bit.
Gatti is nice, when he actually bothers to perform instead of slugging away .. the little bastard moves like quicksilver when he wants to.

I'm from the US - born in Virginia, raised in North Carolina and Georgia, spent some time wandering the east coast, now back in Virginia when I'm not deployed like I am now. Military is good, I've been many places and seen many things, and if all goes well I'll get to see Portsmouth again before I head home. England, that is.
I live in Portsmouth, VA atm as well.

Roy Jones Jr has lost twice now! I was shocked beyond belief! The truth is that he is getting old and out of his weight class. He shouldn't have moved up and stayed light heavy weight. He was awesome as super middle weight! Well i think that the man should retire. He is just too old to fight the young guys he is in with. I think that one of them has lost 9 fights so he is nothing like Jones but just youth and size is naturally something against jones now.
Prince Nasseem was fun to watch.
Roy was AWESOME, PHENOMENAL in his prime.
Lenox Lewis is done now but he was great for a while. I watched him WAY back when take apart Razor Ruddick. I was watching it and my grandma made me turn it because she doesnt like violence. Well a few minutes later i flashed back and Lewis was talking about his victory. He said that he knew the guy dropped his left when he threw a certain punch and that was why he was a bit wild early. Well this marked the beginning of his rise. Then he stumbled and eventually took his rightful place.
Anyone who says Iron Mike in his prime doesnt know a thing. He was tough but smart tall fighters with reach own him.
That young olympic guy (17) from England was fun to watch. I dont recall his name but he was great in all but his last fight where he lost to a 30something amature (professional) Cuban fighter. That is right. Cubans own amatures because they cant turn pro.

Lewis was never anywhere approaching great. Sure, he is a good technical fighter, but he fights without any type of passion whatsoever. Watching him box is like watching an automaton .. and that's his weakness. It's like he doesn't really want to be there, and that loses fights.
Maddie, I have to disagree with you about Tyson however .. the only way he's ever been beaten is by getting close and working the uppercut. Lewis won against him, sure .. but if anyone could consider that Tyson anywhere near good fighting condition is sadly mistaken. That being said, Iron Mike had too much emotion in the ring and not enough technical work. The man is pure animal, and when he went in there he didn't care about winning, he simply wanted to destroy anything standing in his path. And he would have won his last fight if he hadn't torn his knee up, it killed his mobility and the fight should have been stopped right then, IMO.
-Edit-
I forgot to mention it Maddie, THANKS FOR THE POSTCARD! Ya put a big smile on my face with that one. Sorry ya don't see me 'round the TFL forums, but I can't log in over there for some reason.

Agreed. Tyson was absolutely INSANE in his day.
Thought I will say, I like heavyweight fighting more than the ligherclasses most often. While the technical shit in lighter classes is awesome, and those guys ARE truly (in my eyes) better BOXERS and FIGHTERs than the heavyweights, and are in much better shape (god damn some of those guys are so fucking ripped its insane), I just really like the punishment the heavyweights dish out and take. I mean watching guys just beat the living crap out of eachother, with little dancing, is absolutely insane. Guys come out WRECKED in heavyweights. Did you see ...I cant remember who it was... Rahman maybe? Anyways, he had a fucking swollen upper eye, it was a contusion and was like the size of his fist and stuck out like 2 inches from his face, the most awesome thing ive ever seen.
Im not as up to date on boxing lately though, as we dont have HBO/Showtime this year unfortunately :(.

aye tyson was fantastic in his day, as 4 lewis he didnt fight any of the big names till they had past it, i never rated him a very good boxer let alone great one.
and drunk mate, ur a brit right?, u wanna c punishment, u watch the hit man, i dont care aboot his weight he fucks up any 1 who steps in that ring, mainly his serealy powerfull body shots?
not every day u c some i get knocked out from body punchs aye, its all relative to the size the only way those fat bastards do more damage is if they fight smaler guys hahhahaha
