You posted in private, that's why I posted in public, psy :D YAY!!!

THEY'RE STILL SUPPORTING US!!

MVB
Dec 17, 2004, @ 05:51 AM
They're supporting the game, which is nice.

Nevertheless,

Patch did Nothing! Yay!

Ho' well, can't look a gift horse in the mouth, even if it's a mangy bareboned pinto. 2-min drop and lobby fix are nice enough, but hardly worth the hype of a 1.2 patch ... should have been 1.1001

it only did 2 little things to balance problems, come on relic...

oki - been playing a bit with luas - specificaly eldar and made some off the wall changes. I am not saying it is by any means better - in fact it may be worse but I'd like to see some feedback on the direction.

To that end I'll post a mod in a few hours - play it tell me what you think. it would help if people knew eldar, and ork - I nerfed spider.

Ill try it out.

erm, no offense demon but I was hoping someone with a bit more .... understanding of the game.

But, your opinion will be heard.

File going up in 15 min. I wont tell you the details of the changes prior to you making your conclusions but I am sure you will find some WTF's in there as in you never expected me to do that :P.
One thing I see tho is I may have overbuffed FS. :/ I tweaked chaos and sm a bit so play those as well specificaly the useless unit is not useless anymore - guess which one. And no i didn't nerf the scout, altho I was tempted as hell. Check out the new and improved falcon :) as well as a nice prism suprise - with prism I tried to make it less of a nuisance but more useful; - check it out. Bleh I need sleep - this is too much fun.....

Install instructions:

1. Unzip to desktop
2. Run the spooky rat tool
3. In RAT tool click the warhammer icon
4. Select the "W40KData.sga" file
5. (Still in RAT tool) Click the multiple disk icon second last left to roght
6. Let it extract all files.
7. Go to ...\THQ\Dawn of War\W40k\Data folder
8. Replace the "attrib" and game folders with the ones from the zip you downloaded and extracted in step 1 (they are in install folder)
9. Play some

You won't be able to play a clean online game for as long as the stuff in the data folder is unpacked.
To play an unmoded DoW simply remove the contents of ...\THQ\Dawn of War\W40k\Data folder while leaving the actual Data folder there - just empty it

Last hint - pay attention to detail... link follows:

Finally this is just me playing with it to show how easy it is. very few bugs have been fixed mostly balance stuff thats off the wall. Word of Emperor and falcon HAVE been fixed tho.

Not anything final by any means. Altho I am sure some things will be liked - prolly not eldar :P.

If you guys like it and like the things possible - I'm all for a balance-mod team - you thinktank - ill edit.

Oh and btw,if you guys are wondering why there's so little content in the patch, here's an official explanation from Relic itself (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=51532)

just an fyi so you don't get too mad :)

So ... they basically stated "we realize the patch sucks, our post-release support program sucks and we're trying to fix it, and we care more about making new games so we can make money than supporting our player base."

I'm sorry, but that isn't exactly warming my heart back over to Relicness.

It seemed like a conflict between the unexpected bugs and releasing it really. It was a lose-lose proposition.Do you release a smaller one now and get shit for it,or do you release the real thing later on and get shit for taking so long to release that?

They admitted in their "explanation" that they didn't really want to do patches at all, that they had to beg borrow and steal people away to do it, and that they really preferred working on new projects.

I'm sorry, I loved Relic for years, but now that love is lost and must be regained. They exhibit almost 0 care for customer beyond what they HAVE TO DO to silence criticism for a little while, and to keep enough customers to help hype their next project. They want to make money, and that's it.

They should take a page from the book of companies like Blizzard, or the team working Call of Duty's almost incessant patching program, etc. etc.

Ya I doubt ill be buying another relic game for awhile.

UO or regular COD?

MVB
Dec 18, 2004, @ 06:05 PM
Regular CoD, which had like 4 or 5 or even 6 patches, who knows how many ... fact is, a lot.

I'm also being spoiled right now by the dev team for World of Warcraft (and no, I'm not comparing the upkeep-costs-provided of MMO with a non-monthly DoW)

Entropy

Oh,because I recently only got the first COD:UO patch.Of course that game doesn't have many bugs.

Well, its safe to say that we can view the problem from 2 perspectives:

MVBs /Psys one : "Relic Sucks"

Or Relics: "We do our best".

The decision from which perspective to view the problem, is entirely up to the viewer.

I think that by releasing dev tools they hope the community will fix their games for them and simultaneously assuage their guilt. I can't see how that 'feature' has delivered on 1/10 of its promise, SPS prolly does everything in notepad.

Sometime I wonder what the fuck happened to Alex Garden, whether he is the biggest sellout ever after making a few mil, or if he isn't in charge anymore.
It's incomprehensible to me that a company could invest so much effort in getting 99% to a masterwork and then leave it behind for the next. If they want to be like Blizzard they really have to stay on top of things, 1.01 games are just emblematic of their suckyness.

HW2, kudos for it taking a long time before the gameplay gets truly repetitve, but the lame-ass ships that nobody ever builds should have been balanced back in IMO with further patches.

Ilia, Relic does not try their best, so the second suggestion of yours is inaccurate.

I agree: they will lose many of their dedicated fans (like me) if they don't start shape up and paying attention to us. Maybe, though, they are spending time working on an expansion for DoW! :D

ilia
Dec 19, 2004, @ 07:10 AM
MVB: You cant know that for sure. I personally believe that there is a possibility that all their efforts until now were done in the best way possible, from thier perspective. The fact that they need to improve by no means implies that they have screwed up, from their perspective.

We must give them a chance to properly justify thier lack of game support. I am certain that the issue is more complicated than "Omg we screwed, our post-patch proram sucks, we need to improve it".

No, they are working on DoW: Ascension

DoW 2 sort of story follow up. That's the rumor anyway.

Well, I would definitely be happy with a sequel. What is it with all of the new hyped games ending in uber cliffhangers?

ilia
Dec 19, 2004, @ 09:18 PM
Meh. I bet after I return from army service, games will have movie-like graphics and shit like that...

There will be HL3, Halo 4, GTA: Washington, etc.

So, yeah. There is a possibility for DoW 2 too.... :P
