So last night I told Waib to make the post of the day because my rant yesterday didn't drum up much interest. But sitting here this morning I can't help myself. It is like an addiction, well it is part of my morning routine, and I just don't feel right not making it. (What it really boils down to, is if I wait for Waib to make this post, there will be no action on these forums until after 9am and that is just unacceptable).

So first of all, I want to say thanks to Stats for all the help. I am not sure if changing video drivers or clearing my addons folder and only reinstalling ctraid and equipmanager (that's right, I no longer have group calendar) did the trick but I had zero problems in BWL last night. Let's hope it is a permanent fix and not just a Telva got lucky.

So what did we do last night? We totally wtf owned BWL up until Firemaw. Well I take that back, the Razorgore kill was a little sketchy. Lag spikes and general chaos led to a very interesting kill, too bad I wasn't around to see the end of it (I plead the 5th on why I wasn't around).

HOWEVER, Vael was our dragon bish last night. It took us two attempts, the first attempt took the flamer to 1% and only an ill timed dot at the beginning kept him from going down. The second attempt was a thing of pure unadulterated beauty. I am proud to say that none of the tanks fuxored up last night and every transition was hit beautifully. Well I can't say beautifully because, and I am not laying blame here, Fel somehow grabbed aggro before Bal on the first attempt but whateva. What makes me wonder most about that is I gave Bal a freaking mongoose pot to ensure he could do lots of damage because he should have been the last tank on Vael (Fel shouldn't have had to tank just DPS) and he still couldn't keep Fel from stealing aggro.

Do we even need to mention the Broodlord? I mean he got tanked so hard he didn't know what hit him. IIRC we had 2 deaths the entire fight, both tanks (Fel and Bal, Fel got the battle rez). The other quality thing.....no one stole aggro who wasn't supposed to. So we basically had the perfect Broodlord kill. Grats to HotC.

I am not going to dwell on Firemaw. We still have some LOS issues to work on, but I think more Ony cloaks on the healers will solve that problem. I stand by my belief that the cloak makes you immune to the shadowflame dot and therefore, cloaks wearers have 2 things to worry about...1) stay out of the frontal cone because as Wislok found out when my self-bandaging drew aggro (WTF was that about) he took the Shadow Flame breath for like 4K damage and 2) go out of LOS when you flame buffet stacks too high.
(So leadership, if you can take the hint, we need to do Ony tonight :) )

So Kord got his PvP weapon last night. This means it is high time to get it enchanted. How are we planning on doing this? Scarlet Strat runs out the a$$. Yes because Waib's twink run took all of 32 minutes, we are going to run the hell out of Scarlet to collect some righteous orbs. Right now we need a total of 4 (2 for Kord and 2 for some other putz), if anyone else is interested in joining us for the blitz, let us know, especially if you need orbs, or just want to make lots of $$ on orbs after those that need them have already gotten them. This run also serves the guild because we are in search of the recipe to make flasks of wisdom or some such thing that drops off the last boss. So come have fun with the "Co".

I am sad in the pants. You see, when Hatchet reached his rank, it meant he would be playing his pally more often. He kept saying his pally would never go higher than 29. I assumed he would crack on this but he seems to be steadfast. Life would be much more enjoyable if he leveled up to 60. Can you imagine the killing machine I would be if I had Waib, Lard, and Poindexter all "HEAL SIR TELVA NOW"?

Speaking of that, grats to Mike on his new helm. It is a sad day when someone with 27 MVPs gets out rolled on anything, but Mike managed to pull it off. Oh yea he had 24....Either way, now that he has this uber PvP helm, he better be joining us in AB on weekends more often or that sexy helm will be going to waste.

Ok enough rambling, I need to go work and decide how to spend my 30 MVPs. I will kick myself every day knowing that I would have 6 MVPs right now had I rolled on the stupid boots :)

Which reminds me, any miners out there with Arcane Crystals please help the guild and Gadi out by sending them to Zeph. We got 2 more pieces of elementium ore last night which means 2 more bars once we have enough crystals. Gadi only needs 69 more crystals (once all debts are paid) and the other binding before he has the guild's first legendary weapon.

Two tank deaths on BL? Tell lard to stop slacking :P

The fights all about the healers (as much as i hate to admit it), when they get the fight down it becomes trivial :)

Healers dont need Ony cloaks untill nefarian, so work on your los and repositioning if your MT eats a bad wing buffet. Also if you fight him at the gate you can jump down to the dragon pack room and get ooc (he resets) to save some time/money on repair costs if things go pair shaped. But gl anyway :)

3 pieces of ore, a watershed evening for sure, compared with striking out totally like we have been. The more ore the better, if we can get enough it speeds the completion of both legendary weaps we have going due to the strong capital it is if nothing else.

Something to know about righteous orbs. In the Scarlet Bastion, the 2 man patrols, a mage and gallant if memory serves, respawn. Once you are in, and cleared, and we even got to that point 4 man one time, which was a pita, if you hang out, the patrol will respawn and the orbs are in their loot table.

congrats to Kord on achieving one of the rewards of the raid game, he had been slaving away a long time under the vagaries of LGP and it's nice to see our trusty controller get his due.

I'm telling you I got jipped. My rage is as limited as ever.

Something tells me that helm woudl be way too sexy if it had endless rage, and there wouldn't have been any debate on whether we would roll on it.

I agree they dont' need them, but man would it make life easier if they had them. As for the reseting thing, it doesn't always work, we have had him follow us all the way to Razorgore's room.

And Lard thanks for the info. However, I assume since it only takes 30+ minutes to clear the place, it would be easy to just reset the instance and blast it again. But I leave it up to the group to decide.

Telva, it is not the shadow flame that is making life hard on healers.

It is the flame buffet; currently they get nailed w/ it when healing the OT, which is causing them trouble, b/c eventually they have to bail and let it wear off.

Hogger down! Hogger down! HOGGER DOWN!

It took about 5 minutes to find his spawnpoint, but it was worth the wait. Thanks, Leridyn for my fancy, new britches!!! All the kids in Goldshire are gonna be so jealous.

By the way, I love how apeshit everyone goes in the local defense channel when a Hordie is spotted in Alliance territory. They sound like sharks in a feeding frenzy. "OMGWTFBBQSAUCE--THE HORDE IS HERE! KILL HIM! YEAH! CAMP HIS ASS! HE MUST BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS! DROP WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING AND COME ZERG THIS ONE, SINGLE HORDE PLAYER! GANK, GANK, GANK! MURDER! DEATH! KILL! REDRUM!!!"

Barrens local defense goes a lil sumpin like this: "Alliance is attacking XR--again. Ho hum. LFM WC PST."

Ahh, see I did not know this, from the bits and pieces I get, it sounded like the trouble arose when they had to go LOS because of the Shadow Flame. My bad, now I will start thinking on a different strategy.

Now that I think about it, I can see both Mike and Gadi from behind our little cubby hole and not get hit by the buffet. It might be useful to throw a priest back there with us and see if he can heal the MT/OT without ever getting out in the open.

LOS is still iffy. There were times in that fight when I was out in the open and I still was not in LOS of that silly dragon. I just think that doorway has weird LOS.

Do you have OT's in combat with firemaw all the time, or do you run in and out of los?

We have 2 OT's running in and out of los, just to taunt. This means the OT healers stay pritty much out of los all the time, they (usually me) just slap a renew/revu on the OT tank before he runs out. Then i just step out and shield the OT and heal if he takes a few nasty hits as he taunts. Then he runs out and the 2nd OT runs in. The first OT then bandage and wait for the debuff to go. /repeat.

OT healers stand with the rogues/mages/locks.

OT healers just have to be aware of how many debuffs you get on. (and yes i have died a few times, 4k/tick 4tl :P). We usually have a pally healing the OT healers and acting as a back up healer if i need to sit and wait for the debuff cool down. When we first did it i was always in los with the OT and had the OT healers healing me in my imba 200fr gimped fr gear, since then we refind the tactics some what :)

Three things:

1. Hatchet, it was my pleasure to help you get to level 8, and I will be happy to make you mail outfits up to level 40. Furthermore, we got Hogger down, and for that, it was all worth it. I'm more than happy to twink you when I can.

2. One day, one day...I would like to see more rogue stuff drop (do NOT get me started on that craptastic trinket that dropped offa broodlord last night), so I can get a bit better gear. I'd like to spend my points, but on something that has the words "Nightslayer" or "Bloodfang" in it...something is fishy...every boss dropped Nemesis last night. WTF? I'm really serious about rolling a lock this summer.

3. I'm wondering if midnight is just a smidge too late for during the week raiding. I misunderstood last night, and thought we were ending at 11pm. It's not fair to anyone to join up at 7 and then crap out on people at the last hour when it's hard to find a replacement - so I stuck it out. The downside of that is that it affects my work and school. It also affects whether or not I will continue to attend mid-week raids. I can raid until 11 or so, no problem (that gives me 5 hours of sleep)...or would it be a possibility to start earlier? Just a thought.

That's all. Oh, and Waib is a gnome hussy lover.

We actually have all out dps bar a few on the other side of the gate (with the rogues/OT/OT healers?mages etc..) Everyone except the MT healers in the lab room. Less chance of getting hit with a shadow flame through the door and you are behind firemaw, also less distance to walk = more time doing damage.

MVB
Feb 9, 2006, @ 04:26 PM
That's actually not a bad idea, and if aggro breaks he goes and beats on that side, not on the healers inside suppression room.

Enough of this Blackwing Lair crap--can we discuss strategeries for The Deadmines and The Stockades now?! Hatchetface has been to both as a level 60 bad-ass, but I'm nervous about venturing in w/ a level-appropriate Pallytard.

Help!

The proper strategy is this....

poindexter: Telva will you please please please take me to the deadmines
telva: hrmm....does the Force of Will drop down there?
poindexter: How the hell am I supposed to know, I am a n00b here.
telva: do you promise to heal sir Telva?
poindexter: I guess, if that is what it takes?
telva: ok, good, now I have another personal heal bish, muhahaha

This strategy actually works quite well with me. You see, I got a new dps helm with lots of stats ...

Nearly 30 str/agil/sta actually. And I like to blow things up with it. You see, I wield it in my MH instead of Quel'serrar.

So ... where will you be tonight about 11 ish Poindextr00b?

I think it might be time to look at a new spec, not that I can afford it, but I want something a tad different, not sure how different but a tad. Maybe do enough to get the DW talents, not sure though I will have to research it. Too bad I don't have dual monitors like Waib.

Here's my cookie cutter build:

I think it is 13/11/27 I would post it for ya but I can't do it from work. I am sure MVB has his saved somewhere and it is very similar to it. Like I said, I wanna do some research into it and see if I can come up with something funner rather than work man like.

I roll with a build that I guess is 10/17/24 ...
5/5 deflection, 5/5 tac mastery, 5/5 cruelty, 5/5 unbridled wrath, 3/3 improved cleave, 1/1 piercing howl, 1/5 imp. battleshout, 2/2 imp. execute (I love this, b/c my rage gen from one hit w/ Quel is typically 10rage, and so I can nonstop spam execute under 20% even if not the target), 5/5 toughness, 5/5 shield spec, 5/5 anticipation, 5/5 defiance, 1/1 conc blow, 3/3 sunder

So the top tier talent of the protection tree isn't worth getting? Muy interesante.

Maybe I'll consider respeccing after all--I feel like I've wasted alot of points in Arms just to get to Mortal Strike. Death Wish and Last Stand might be fun to have--2 for the price of 1, even!

MVB
Feb 9, 2006, @ 09:25 PM
What shield slam? Waste of rage. I do more dmg for less rage with cleave, which I have to get imp. execute neway, and with whirlwind, which I get talent-free. Besides this, there's the simple fact that shield slam is a wasted skill meant to satisfy the epeens of disgruntled protwars who'd rather be pvp'ing. If you're going to do damage, you don't do it with a shield on-board.

Shield slam is just a waste of rage, and it fails to generate a significant level of hate more than sunder armor, which at improved costs less than half as much. And don't whip out the rage-dump BS anybody ... heh, if you need to dump rage, start spamming sunder+HS at the same time, which is far more abortable than slam+hs, and generates insane hate neway.

Unfortunately I don't think I can get the full effect of DW specialization without hampering my prot talent tree. Mike's build is intriguing for the fact that cleave is really important in MC (firelords get ownt) and when farming furblogs. However, I don't wanna be like Mike so I will have to think about this some more.
