Yeah, there's a sort of 'activation cost' for the first month, after that you can choose subscription types, the longer the cheaper...
Creating a CD-less account and a subscription to EVE - Online (including 30 days of game time) = €19.95
Cost/month* Total cost*
1-month-plan € 14.95 € 14.95
3-month-plan € 12.95 € 38.85
6-month-plan € 11.95 € 71.70
12-month-plan € 10.95 € 131.40
* VAT included
Cost/month Total cost
1-month-plan $ 14.95 $ 14.95
3-month-plan $ 12.95 $ 38.85
6-month-plan $ 11.95 $ 71.70
12-month plan $10.95 $ 131.40
So the yanks get off marginaly cheaper.
You can also buy timecards, or if you manage to find a particularly profitable ISK (ingame money) making opportunity, it is legal to 'buy' gametime cards for ISK. 90 day ones can go for around 250 million ISk I think.

i agree with Spulm, that game is crazy! i read an article in PC gamer about some ppl thathad destroyed 1 of teh best guildish (corporations) in teh whole game! they used a month or to to infiltrate them with double agents (they where hired to kill teir leader) and suddenly 1 day when that corporation whent to show off with a ship that only 2 are known, those infiltrator ppl attacked and wrecked a ship worth of a 16.000 dollar worth ship (ebay) and moore! they destroyed them at minutes! its crazy! you can do whaevha!

Heh, I think what you're describing is one of the exploits of the 'guiding hand social club'.
That corporation can be hired (at a hefty price) to cuise strife, havock and plain losses to whoever you particularly despise. It has members and alts of their members join various corporations and alliances around the EVE universe; they just generaly play allong with them untill they've gained their trust, and then one night they'll decide they've got enough access to corp stuff and take EVERYTHING the corp ownes. Then they rejoin guiding hand...
Their greatest known coup was sometime late last year infiltrating one of the largest PVP alliances of the time, they emptied the alliance funds of multiple billion ISK, stole all the ships in the hangars, including dousens of battleships, numerous faction ships and thousands of T2 items and production material.
More importantly, they got away with a few T2 BPO's, worth 10s of billions of isk on their own, and cripling the money making ability of the alliance.
I think it was vallued at over 40 billion isk, which would be worth somewhere near 16000 dollars now on ebay, though there's been some isk inflation since then, so it could well have been worh double that at the time...
I don't recall them directly attacking such a valuable ship (would have to be an imperial apocalypse I think, that's the only ship that there's only 2 of), especialy as they would have had to do so AFTER the theft, or they'd have been kicked out too quick.
Politics, betrayal, mercenaries, pure malignant evil... what more can you ask for in a game :D

i've been playing a lot of eve recently and been loving it, plus in game once you get risch enough you can buy 90 day game cards for 250 million isk, so in a sense eventually you get to play for free eventually. It may sound like a large amount but once you get to a certain point in the game getting money ceases to be a problem.
Theres also a 2 week free trial atm for anybody whose curiosity has been piqued. http://www.tlsconline.com/mainsitefiles/affil/eveonline-small.jpg (https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?aid=101025) <--- trial linky
Edited by DJTheBaron to put in the tlsc affiliates link ;-)

ah ok, yes i think it was that! i read it in PCgamer... *reading* yes! your right "guiding hand social club" thats them and the leader "istvaan shogaatsu" said: "our net gain of this massieve heist is 20 billion ISK.
Hostile assets destroyed:
-one amarr navy apocolypse
-one capsule, belonging to Mirial, known to possess a head full of +4s
-one dream....
total damages inflicted are estimated at close to 30 bilion ISK."
iv only playd eve a little a while ago.. but i bilive thats alot of money...

It is indeed.
It can be tedius making money if you go for pure PVP action, as you've pretty much GOT to engage in a bit of PVE to top up your losses every now and again, unless you manage to find some dumb enemy transporting something very valuable (happened a few times in corp, blueprint copies for unique ships...) and not protecting it properly.
It's still quite viable to pay for gametime cards with ISK to provide the cost of playing though, if you spend a few days each month NPC hunting or you have a good manufacturing/industrial base setup.

Yes I remember that event. Got quite a few people angry as well, and the community was a bit upset about it.
But CCP didn't do anything about it. :)

Which in my oppinion was right. It was part of the game mechanics, and trust is important in these games where you share resources. The people doing this were excellent spies/saboteurs, they deserved to get away with it.
EvE has a very free game universe, you can do pretty much anything you want, be it righteously hunting pirates, or doing dastardly underhanded deeds like the GHSC.
There are people who own blueprints for very valuable items, the Tech II items, instead of competing, a few of them have worked together to maintain a monopoly and arange their prices... they're rich beyond the dreams of the average player.
There's people who have played for the better part of a year and have never flown anything larger than a cruiser, nor feel the want to. They don't even need tens of millions of ISK, they can do just fine with 5 million. You will barely make a loss on the destruction of a normal cruiser or a Tech I frigate.
Many paths are open, just choose which way you want to head...
