Guitarist of Damage Plan, and Formar guitarist for local band Pantera "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot and killed last night in a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub. Also his brother drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott was injured and his status is "unknown" at this time.

A total of 5 people died, and two were wounded. 1 of the dead was the gunman when police arrived on the scene they shot him dead.

So my prayers and condolences go out to the Abbott family and to all victims of the tragedy.

Agreed. He dident die the typical rock star death, nor really lived the wild rock star life. He did everything right, yet it was still taken of him before his time.

R.I.P.

What the real question is, though, is what drove the gunman to do it.

cheers, and

The news reported that the man had been losing his mind for quite some time. He went to a friends house and said he had some lyrics written and when his friend read em they were pantera lyrics. And then he said he was gonna sue pantera for stealing his lyrics. Since Phil Anselmo(panteras vocalist and main lyric writer) is in Super Joint Ritual and they did their album and arent on tour now. So Damageplan was the only other ex-members of pantera he could get to. And Dimebag was as big a presence as phil was in all their fans and more so here locally where they came from so he targeted Dimebag. He was from columbus and Super Joint Ritual didnt stop there on their tour.

I met Dimebag twice and he was nothing less than what everyone says about him. I jumped his privacy fence and knocked on his door on a bet. His brother invited me in for some crown royal and Dime showed me a few licks on guitar. He gave me a pick and a string he broke on his Washburn when he was showing me the harmonics at the end of cemetery gates. The second time was at their venue The tattoo Bar after a Nothingface show there. He got some strippers to dance for us and he took a picture of my hair because he said it was "bitchin". Man he was a character a one of a kind too bad god dont make those types more often.

Last nights public memorial for him in Dallas was beautiful, Zack Wylde Ozzys former lead guitarist, Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez of now defunct Alice In Chans, Pat Lachman Of Damageplan, and Eddie Van Halen of you guessed it Van Halen were there. I cant say it was awesome, or it rocked, or I had the best time, it was more like it sucks to have to be here like this and im glad the crowd was able to hold themselfs together and stand so still and quiet.

I knew Dimebag. Well kinda. Me and my band opend for pantera a few times at the Byou here in the DC area. Dimbag was allways increidbly nice to us. And I got plowed with him and the boys in Pantera a few times. I remember us doing sound check and playing Cemitary gates (something we played in other live shows) and he came in yelling. We thought we were in deep shit for playing it. Then he jumped on stage, had his tech bring up his Dean, and showed me what parts i was doing wrong and him and vinny played the song with us. It's a moment i wont ever forget.
He was a Musical Geinous and a increidbly warm and friendly person. And he could party harder than anyone. We'll miss You dimebag
RIP
