View Full Version : Herbs/Potions needed for MC

I am going to make an attempt to streamline our current MC Alchemy workload.

It is my intention to ease the monetary burden that not only our leaders have, but also our current Alchemists have each week before going to MC.

Plain fact is herbs are expensive. Most of the level 50+ herbs are selling for 50s-1g each. With the number of potions needed for a typical run, it can add up in a hurry. If you bought all the herbs from AH for just one Flask of the Titans it could cost near 50g, not to mention the Scholo run needed.

As far as I know there are 3 main people collecting and making most of the potions for MC. If there are others please let me know and forgive me in advance:

Coffeworld
Sarble
Zephonia

As it is not MVB's sole responsebility to keep a guild bank over flowing with gold to fund every raid adventure, it should not be the herbalists/alchemists responsibilty to use all their non-MC time and funds to collect herbs. On the other hand though it is the responsibilty of the Herb/Alch to do "some" collecting and making potions each week to help the guild overall. Just as it is the tanks responsibilty to 1) Hold aggro (which Balrog has been failing at when Jonra starts shooting Shadow Bolts), and 2) Pay a hefty repair bill after each run (mine is usually 50s-75s good job tanks).

In the future I would like to try to setup an "Herb Mule". This ALT would serve as a bank for herbs, and give the alchemists a place to send requests. In theory this bank would serve as a revolving door for herbs. The main Alchemists could get herbs from the bank, but would also need to help keep it full.

I am not saying "All herbalists send all your herbs to me now. You are not allowed to earn gold using your proffession. All your belongings are property of HotCherbmulebanklasergunpewpewpew" What I am trying to propose is every herbalist in the guild (my mule included) send what you can in the begining so we can get a hefty stock pile, and then modify the system to benefit us.

So some of you are probably saying, heh I am not an herbalist, I can not believe i just read all that nonsense, wtf do I care give me potions or die. Well you are not entirely off the hook either. For the system to work we need everybody in the guild to help. So if you are not an herbalist here are a few things you can do to help ease the burden:

1) Fishing: Everybody can do it. Its fun and relaxing. We need Stonescale eels. More eels than you can imagine.

2) AH farming: You would be surprised how many people do not know the true value of some things. So everytime you are in the AH check prices on potions and high level herbs and buy/out bid on ones with ridiculusly low prices.

3) Elemental Fire: This is a key somewhat rare reagent needed in one of the most used potions by our tanks.

4) Morrowgrain quest: Take a quick trip to Un Goro, run around for 30 minutes, collect a couple stacks of soil, and any herbs other than Morrow Grain you get...send to me. Some will be useful and others will just go to AH to buy more useful items.

Spending an hour or two each week doing the above things will not hurt your game time too much, but would go to great lengths to help.

Of course this is all up for disscussion, and would like to hear others comments.

Below is a list of potions and reagents needed every MC run.

1 Shadow oil (4 Fadeleaf 4 Gravemoss)

1 Sungrass

Elixir of Greater Agility
1 Sungrass
1 Goldthorn

Elixir of the Mongoose
2 Mountain Silversage
2 Plauguebloom

I heavily endorse herbalist and alchemist participation in this plan. The cost that I put out pre-MC each time is enormous, but it needs to be done b/c buffs are critical, mainly to the MT, but also to others. Major mana pots, greater fire prot pots, and Flasks of the Titans, therefore, are the top top top top requirements.

As a side-note, a tank who may guest run with us some is able to make 20 Flasks of the Titans mats-wise if someone will assist him in getting to the alchemy lab in scholo. Coffee can make 'em too. I'd like to get both of them there at some point before next week; I'm ok going w/out flasks for bosses we know; that extra hp though, will save our bacon on bosses like ony.

WTF??!? ELIXIR OF SHADOW POWER?!?

I didn't even know this existed.

I am drooling right now. It is not pleasant.

I <3 you greatly for putting this up, neif. Last night I believe i paid a total for tirty gold to help make Bruteforce and Fire proc pots for MC. My gold won't be able to take that for long. PLease help a MC Alchy out. :D

Nief, perhaps you can make it your mission (and I will assist) to determine who the guild herbalists are. Assign one herb to each as a guild-donation herb, and let any others they find be for whatever use they choose (guild donation optional). This way, we can hopefully get focused collection by individual members without harming the personal profit levels too much, and end up focusing stacks as well ... i.e. instead of getting 2 or 3 of 5 different random herbs in the mail, some of which may be useless for the high end stuff, you'll get (hopefully) 20-stacks of each herb type as various herbalists collect their assignd guildherb.

Thoughts?

Niefankazz
Sep 28, 2005, @ 08:37 PM
I agree it would be much easier to assign certains herbs to certain people. It helps staying goal oriented and knowing in advance that you have to collect X number of gnomeroots for this weeks MC run. When focused it really does not take all that much time to collect when yuo know where to look. Certain herbs tend to have "hot spots" depending on the zone.

I will make an effort to get a list of guild herbalists.

Until we get a systm down I will continue using my mule as a kind of random herb collector, and hand these to whomever is making our top 4 potions.

I will not give up on this!!

I had very very brief conversations with a few of the herbalists, and spending their own money and using all their free time to collect herbs seems to be high on the list.

I will try to have more indepth conversations with the guilds Herb/Alch this weekend and keep everybody informed.

Props to Nief; he provided 10 major heal pots. Also, props to Bluey, who donated 10g to the guild.

One thing that non Herbalist can do aswell is the Morrow Grain Quest.

It is a returnable quest in wich you collect Soil from Ungoro, then put some seeds and the soil in a pouch, then you get random herbs. I have gotten Gromsblood this way, once or twice.

I just thought it would be worth a shot. It would also help raise your standing with Darnassis if you need to that.

also a tribute run for the 2 hour "good to be king" buff is nice and i think a log out will preserve this 2 hour buff....

Also a great prep for the core is a tribute run for the buffs....

Hit the faire - have a warlock team summon people to if in Mulgore - stone home - fly.. there is a page that tells you what to answer to get the buff you want.. i know im supanoob..

i can make:

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=26384

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=25326

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=12980

also, wtf is up with prices? Major Healins are 2g+ and Major Manas are like 4g.. prices have doubled!

My absolute favorite potion in the world:

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=15094

for MC i remap my weapon switch key (~) to drink one of these bad boys.

got a noob question.. i buy:

http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5780

but ive never used one.... cant carry more than one... i worry it clears aggro as well... sure it would... but you can find em cheap as 5g on AH - i think its a quest turn in reward...

Im sure this is all old news.. but it seems a place to put it.

I spend about 30 hours a week prepping for MC... thx god flask effect persist through death now!!!!

Thanks for all that great info Supa. Some of these ideas will help give us an alternative to herb farming.

After talking a bit with our 3 main alchemists there are 5 main herbs that are needed every week for MC.

Gromsblood
Icecap
Dreamfoil
Mountain Silversage
Plauguebloom

and of course elemental fire

I would also like to point out that it is true skinning/mining is the best money maker up to level 60, but it seems that herbalism/alchemy after level 60 destroys mining/skinning.

So if you are bored with your current proffessions, or looking to get your epic mount I would like you to consider this:

Tuesday night I spent 2 hours in Felwood collecting herbs. When finished I had:

+20 Gromsblood
+20 Dreamfoil
+20 Plaguebloom

Various amounts of Sungrass, Golden Sansam, and Mountain Silversage.

If I would have turned around and AH'd these I could have easily made well over 50g. Some of you could have your epic mounts by the end of the weekend.

If you take this option I would ask you to please send some of your collections to MVB or one of Alchemists to ensure success in MC.

....and I am considering practicing what I preach. Have you seen the prices of major mana potions? Good Lord!!! Nief has access to this recipe from the Scholo quest line but my alt does not.

i have a small stock pile of herbs on ellora. what herbalists can be on about 8-830 tonight? i can transfer them all to you. in fact, i'll just mail them to you nief (if i can spell your name right.)

also, since my (albeit small) gold stock isnt used, i can donate a good portion of that to the guild. prolly only about 20g i can manage in donation, though. mvb, i'll send that to you.

Still have to bring you on a luci/mag run for funz.

Niefankazz
Oct 3, 2005, @ 05:28 PM
This is a bump and a shout out to Ellora.

She sent a ton of herbs, some of which I banked and some I AH'd to buy some of our much needed top 5 herbs.

It has been a little slow going so far. A lot of the herbs Zeph and I collected and banked throughout the week were all used up in one MC run on Sunday. Do not fret alchemists, I realize it will take us awhile to get a good working system down.

I need to ask the guild for one thing this week. We desperately need Elemental Fire. It is a key reagent in our fire resistance potions and our repair bots. I think everybody has at least an hour to spare for a little farming this week.

So for every Elemental fire I receive by pull time Friday I will put your name into a drawing for a Mooncloth bag constructed by yours truly.

Thibz can you narrow this down a little? That is a shit load of dreamfoil. I am not sure that I can provide all the herbs for this list. Zeph and I are starting with the tanks/healers first and will expand in the future.

OK thanks Mike this gives me some direction on where to concentrate my efforts this week.

Niefankazz receives loot [Gromsblood]

Besides these, I am going to also concentrate on Major mana potion herbs. It takes 5 (3 dreamfoil 2 icecap) for each potion. SO now you know why they are about 15-20g a stack on the AH.

heh np

I am sure it will get easier. It is just amazing how many herbs we go through and that was only one night. No wonder the AH prices are all jacked up.

2 stacks of dreamfoil
1 stack of icecap
1 stack of gromsblood
1 stack of golden sansam
1 stack of mountain silversage
1 stack of plaguebloom

Not to mention the elemental fire and dreamfoil you used from your own stock. All gone in one run, and we did not even scratch the surface on what we need.

I think consistency (collecting) and conservation (not using potions til bosses) is the key.

Hey guys and ladies,

I was thinking a lot about switching from mining to herbalism lately... for my wallet of course ;)

This post and the 2 MC run i have experienced made me realized that arcane crystal was not the priority of the guild.

I switched last night and I am now 210 herbalism so far...hope to get to 300 tomorrow so i can grind some needed herbs for wednesday Ony

I have talk to Niiefankazz about that and he his the one who will receive the plants so far. Just tell me if im wrong to do this and ill send them to the herb-mule bank.

BTW I love farming more than fishing and I was thinking of keeping half the herbs for myself. Just don't worry now, I farm a lot so their should be enough for a lot of potions.

Great to know, Corb. Just to warn, on weekends the farmers come out, so you may not be able to get as many then.

This is so true.

Before I logged on Nief last night (his herbalism is only about 200) I was on my old main a 300 herb/alch. In just about an hour in Felwood I was almost able to get a stack of dreamfoil, gromsblood, and plaguebloom. Also various other sungrass golden sansam and mountain silversage.

Last weekend I was out there to collect for Sundays run and it took me almost 3 times as long to get these herbs.

I am convinced. It is only worth your time to collect on the weekdays for serious stacks of herbs.

Neif, add eilxers of sages to the second list of pots. It gives +18int and spirit for I think 30 minutes.

Its for 1 hour but its unneceesary to add. The Arcane Brilliance (Mgaes) and The Divine Spirit (Priest) buffs superecede this potion.

LardGibs
Oct 4, 2005, @ 08:01 PM
I remember it stacking with arcane intellect but maybe that was because I had no spirit buff at the time. You get a message that a more powerful effect is in place, if you have both buffs up and try to use one?

Thibor
Oct 4, 2005, @ 08:25 PM
it stacks as long as you don't have the spi buff.

Coffeeworld
Oct 5, 2005, @ 11:51 AM
pots can be tricky when superceding, there are ways around it :P

start with the most powerful, then work down with your pots and you got a shot they will stay :O

i know for a fact that if greater agi is drank first, then mongoose, the agi goes poof. but when reversed you get both on you

Everybody has been doing a great job. Everyday I see more and more herbs in my mailbox. My bank is getting full and soon the evil gnome herb bank alt wil make her appearance.

I have been concentrating mostly on what I like to call the big 6

-Gromsblood
-Mountain Silversage
-Icecap
-Plaugue Bloom
-Golden Sansam

Thanks again

SHOUT OUTS!!

-Zeph and Sarble for helping get this started and being full participants
-Aro and MVB sent me Elemental Fires
-Corb, Imras and somebodies ALT sent me a crap load of random herbs
-Somebody in the AH that put stacks of Plauguebloom up for 3g each....the herb bank quickly purchased these.

I am sure I missed somebody, and I am sorry.

If the healers want major mana potions we need to see a higher rate of Dreamfoil/Icecap incoming. It shold not be the sole responsibility of Sarb/Zeph to collect this. So please help if you can.

I have been trying to be some sort of "herb bank" just to help with the overwhelming amount of herbs needed for each raid.

Sending herbs to any of the 3 of us is fine. They send me all the extra anyway to stash away. So either way, I am not all about everybody sending me all their herbs all the time. I am just trying to stock pile some of the much needed ones so they are easily avaliable.

Corb you have ben a great help, keep it up bro.
