I was just wondering what kind of music you guys listen. I know we already had a thread like this with a top 3 of songs, but let's discuss a bit more bout it. There is a lot I like, but here are some examples of what I listen.
Rock:
Aereogramme
Coldplay
Oceansize
Radiohead
Soulwax
Tool
Downbeat:
Boards of Canada
DJ Shadow
Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed you black emeror
Hint
Portishead
Sigur Ross
Ugress
Unkle
Yonderboy
Also like D&B like some Aphex Twin albums. but it's not really my music.

Hard to say.
I have so many MP3 and CD that it would be difficult to identify a singular favourite band.
I would list the following as favourites:
Billy Joel
Queen
Elvis
Eminem
Dido
The Eagles
There are literally hundreds of badass songs but I think all the above have had quite a number of great tracks.

I mostly like Emo music. I got links to some of my favorite band's songs...The links go to Launch, The vids SHOULD work even if you don't have an account at Launch...But if they don't work..and you need an account. You can make on it's SO easy and free.
Don't worry I WOULDN't post any songs that I don't think are amazing. These are all worth listening to.
Straylight Run: (The video is SO homo, but the song is really good)
Go here and DL the only song posted there. (http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1107699)
Brand New (this is a "definite Head Nodding song":
DL the song called: "Sic Transit Gloria" and "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad" (http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1098953)
Jimmy Eat World (this is more like Rock....)
DL ANY of these they are all really amazing. (http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1013384)
The Killers
A TOTALLY awsome band...listen to Mr. Brightside first. (http://launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1103362)

Old stuff:
Led Zeppelin
Dire Straits
Jethro Tull (not much, Jethro Tull are 90% gayness 10% genius)
Deep Purple
Metallica
Recent stuff:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Joan Osborne
Counting Crows (some few songs)
Nora Jones
Tori Amos (the first albums)
Evanescence
The Darkness
I have 300+ CD collection but it lays under a shroud of dust because I have no time to peruse it. And 4E, classical does not count I guess, otherwise we'd have to make comparisons between modern commercial music and music of the past, which was art.

Billy Joel = Sexiest solo artist ever and Meshuggah is totally awesome.
Michael Jackson/80's glam metal/Megadeth/Soilwork/In Flames/Slayer/Jurassic 5/NIN/Joe Hisashi's and Hans Zimmer's soundrtrack work (Princess Mononoke and Spirited away)/Danzig/AC/DC... and of course... the best band ever - GWAR!!!!
Just to give a bit of a taste for my musical interests. For me, though, all it takes for me to like a song is for it to have a talented percussionist. I'm all about drums and a beat, something you can dance to. I got rhythm. :D
lol And I gotta shout out to my old school punk roots. When my parents died I went through a really dramatic phase in which I got 8 tattoos, and 26 piercings total.
-Real- punk will always have a special place in my heart. Blink 182 isn't punk... for those of you kids who don't know what punk is. Punk died around '95.

There are some who would argue that Blink 182 WAS punk, but the mainstream caught up to them and changed the definition of what "Real" punk ever was (or wasn't).
Of course, that's the opinion of a close friend of the band's I know, who has known them far longer than from when they hit it big.

I'm 18 mind you, and I think that Nickelback has some very interesting neanings and life philosophies in (at least) some of their songs. Besides, they are the most emotional rock band I know. Emotions like dispair, anger, sadness, etc. are greatly emphazised in their songs. Here in Israel, you get really drawn into all these emotions.
But as I said before, it's all a matter of taste, and seeing you saying that you hate pop music is perfectly acceptable.

Also Illia, you did not state that your "review" was personal.

Furthermore, the reason I was rather miffed, was because, people would read your post, see your "reviews" (If you could call them that) and think, "Well! The music Chef posted prolly sucks!" When there is a great chance that they would indeed, like the songs.

Wow, where can I even start with this thread?
I've posted before about my musical tastes, but I think I've failed to portray exactly how diverse they can be. But before I do, I have to say Mistress hit it on the head with her statement of punk dying around '95.
My tastes are strange, and eclectic to say the least. They range from my favorites - 80's punk and hardcore, early 90's industrial, ect, ect.. well, just let me list some of my favorite bands..
Tiger Army - I can't describe how much this band OWNS!
Social Distortion/Mike Ness - 25 years of playing by their own rules.
Bad Religion - See above, more politically intelligent.
Dropkick Murphys - I'm not Irish, I'm a Scot. But even I feel the call of Boston.
Agnostic Front - The original Hardcore.
Patriot
Ducky Boys
The Templars
Dead Kennedys - They own you.
Suicidal Tendancies - All I wanted was a pepsi..
Bad Brains - Black Panthers meet Motorhead? Rasta as well. DC area insanity.
The Casulties - Pure gutter trash, I looked like these guys for many years.
The Misfits - Danzig Era only, please.
Danzig - Made the Misfits, and still rules you solo.
Black Flag - Rollins years only, please.
Henry Rollins - Rabid pitbull neanderthal. Or is he? More intelligent than most of you.
The Clash - True influence. Fuck Johnny Rotten.
Rocket From the Crypt
Nekromantix
The Reverend Horton Heat! - Pure Texas rockabilly, INSANE band. Get one of their cd's NOW.
Brian Setzer - Fuck the Stray Cats, this man oooozes rockabilly.
That's all I can think of for punk at the moment, there is more.
NiN - I was made aware with Broken. Since then I've collected EVERY Halo. Rabid fan.
KMFDM - I might not agree with the politics, but a 20+ year career of good tunes.
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Kooler than Jesus.
Electric Hellfire Club
Skinny Puppy!!
Pigface
Ministry
Product of Frozen $perm
Leviathant
Again, I'm rushing. There is more.
Metal-type thing..
Too many to even list!
Metallica - pre Black Album. After And Justice for All, I refuse to listen.
Sepultura - insanity!
Soulfly - more insanity, Max Cavalera! See above.
Nailbomb - Even more! See above two.
Bolt Thrower
Jag Panzer - They wrote an album based on Macbeth! Intelligent opera-metal. Mwrar.
Morbid Angel
Deicide
Pantera - Still one of the best bands ever.
Blitzgren
Cannibal Corpse - Surprised yet? They rock.
GWAR - I dunno where to put this. Pure live-show material, go see them.
Again, there are tons .. TONS more I like, I simply can't keep track of all of it.
I have well over 1500 cds, and don't even bother to keep track anymore.
Oh, and two more.
Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr.

hm...whats pretty much it as far as what i regularly listen to, but there are a FEW (very few at that) new bands i will tolerate. all that punk whiney bitch crap though like simple plan, something corporate, the darkness, and all that whiney fag pussy noise just makes me want to blast them in the face with a 12 gauge and shave the bone off from around their brain with a dull iron bayonette.
p.s. drunk, you like the darkness!??!? jesus christ go suck on a dick why dont you, thats the worst band ever. seriously they = simple plan...open your eyes! or else you will be forced to prance around in a fucking dress and shit

LOL laser, I think drunk mend he was surprised he did not listed Simple Plan. And I agree, I also hate those cheap ass scum bands. BUT WHAT I EVEN HATE MORE, and it's really loved, is those stupid sing competitions on television!! THEN THEY WIN, GET A CONTRACT AND THEN THEY ANNOY ME WITH THEIR STUPID BLATHERING BOUT "Ooooooohhhh.... I live u so much......" SHUT UP MORON, GO SIT IN UR CORNER!!!
Really, I hate ALMOST ALL new music on MTV. Some good bands of course, but first of all, REMOVE ALL THAT R&B shit with their "UHU…. YEAH…. BABYGIRL shake that ass for me"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHUT UP
Also remove all the 16 year old virgin chicks with a quite face. THEY SUCK!!!
Any more?? Well, I can continue like this for some hours cuz of all the stupid music around the globe. But I won't. I respect everyone’s opinion bout music.
Go in piece.

Blacksand gets super props for -excellent- taste in music.
SALUT TO A FELLOW GWAR FAN!!! I got 3 GWAR trophies hanging on my wall (white shirts soaked in their stage blood)
One concert I came home from, I got so much blood in my eyes from moshing my contacts were stained pink. :D
GWAAARRRR!!!!
Props to the Danzig too. ;) He's totally an acquired taste.

Dude, The Darkness are the reincarnation of cheesy 80s hair metal, while Simple Plan is a corporate pop-shit group. How you could compare the 2 i dont know.
And The Darkness have one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Hm...my taste? Everything, with limits and exceptions. Being an aspiring composer, it's really important to get as much in as you can.
Exceptions - Country...and country.
Limits - A lot of rap sucks. Or just doesn't resonate with me for varying reasons
- Some Heavy metal. When it's pointless screaming with poor lyrics, or when it simply becomes too heavy, then I'm alienated.
-Most pop...when it's all watered shit with recycled lyrics, happy effects and perma 3 chord abuse, I just plain stay away. Same for corporate punk bands and any genre that's been similarly abused.
Other than those (those are the limits I can think of right now...), it's all good really. Folk music, rock, rap, a lot of foreign stuff...Everything classical, I'm a particular fan of the romantic period but anything except the more recent crap like atonal music. I'm a recent fan of jazz, and really, as with anybody my taste is always changing if not growing.
I dunno, we're really going anywhere from The Strokes, to Radiohead and Pumpkins, to Aimee Mann, Slean and stuff like that...to Beatles, to old Bush and old Eve 6...Cake, Chemical Brothers...Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley...RATM, Goo Goo Dolls...No Doubt (older stuff), Queen, Chili Peppers, The pillows, the Wallflowers...
There are obviously a lot of groups from which I only like a few tracks...coldplay, collective soul...David Usher, Outkast...Kylie Minogue, Live...Phantom Planet. Mix in a few singles from different decades...A lot of old stuff like Francois Hardy and Yves Duteil (french old stuff is good :) )...Then we got a buncha Japanese stuff like AKFG, L'arc, X Japan...buncha italian and latin stuff. (old latin stuff, not that new fruity stuff). Kraftwerk? Toss in some varying 80s crap for fun.
Ah, yes and there's also the whole hoarding soundtrack bit. Go Clint Mansell! Williams is alright...Hans Zimmer used to be good...but ever since I didn't catch on to the whole diversity of the Gladiator soundtrack, I've been disliking absolutely everything he's done recently. I miss The Rock theme. Armageddon music was decent I guess. Really for soundtracks you have to hand it to the Japanese, though the French are interesting. Japan has so many more artists, so many different projects...but above all they lack all the hollywood conventions. North American soundtracks mostly suck ass because they're not really substance. I suppose that's only my opinion, but all this hollywood abuse of pianos and soaring violins just to tell you how you're supposed to feel during scene x is really really lame. Sure it happens in any soundtrack, but guh...ok, yeah not a fan of hollywood here. Indie films for me. And Yoko Kanno is some sort of god-like entity. How one can switch styles from orchestral brilliance, to awe-inspiring jazz...to traditional folk music...I wish I could let it all go like that.

Heirate Mich (sp?) was a great song.
Digging up a corpse and marrying it? Great stuff. /sarcasm.
Rammstein well, I'm not fond of them at all.
As for the White Stripes..
The only good thing to come from the White Stripes is Jack White beating the holy shit out of the Von Bondies singer, and the song he did with Loretta Lynn.
Other than that, get a fucking bass player, and stop pretending to be a married brother an' sister pair. Jesus. I'm entirely not fond of this 'garage rock' revival style of music. If I wanted to listen to music like this, I'd listen to Iggy Pop and the Ramones and Velvet Underground who did it all 20 years ago and much better than any fool trying to do it today.

I noticed you didn't mention any rock, that's good. Rock owns Rap in technical sound, creativity, and over all coolness. I am glad you recognize this fact :)
Rap. hip hop. rnb... they can be good.
But rock? *falls over in rapture* purely amazing. Especially in concert. Anyone who's been to a rock concert know what I'm talking about.

I hate that music. Though at least that music has kids with real instruments...Rap is like a keyboard and one of those big black disc tearer uppers that go "Whoof whoopa whoof" but all scratchy and stuff. And a "singer" that has more coats and fur and metal on him that skin.
 <3
Dude aagil...I mentioned sweet ones. Listen to some of the ones I posted :( NOBODY LISTEN TO MY COOL SONGS :'(
