I really need to get a new mouse. been playing Freelancer a lot lately and ring finger and pinkey finger seem to fall asleep after 5 minutes of constant firefighting. I end up smacking them against the desk.

I odn't care much for the track ball mouses. They don't work too good for FPSs like UT. :-\ But it's only cause I have huge hands and I had a small mouse.

This is the mouse I had before I threw it at the wall yesterday.

Pretty small. I can fit it in my palm.

ive deformed a mousepad through the frictional heat generated by my mouse. But it was kinda over a period of time. Its all bent out of shape. 8-)

i use cheap, light optical mouses' (mice?) with a wire - i hate/dont trust cordless or heavy ones. or posh ones. they have to have that simple mouse shape and they must have a mouse wheel IN THE MIDDLE. i throw them away after 2 months or so. £5 a pop.

i dont use a mouse mat either. it slows my hand down and i move the mouse using very large arc movements...

y'know - if any of you are interested...

also, more info... i control the finer motions or the mouse with my thumb and 3rd finger. and keep my wrist straight and use my arm/shoulder for the larger movements. i find this gives me more control and faster reaction times...

would you like to know more?

Hmm i have the standard optical cable mouse with 2 buttons and one wheel from microsoft since 3 years and had never any problem except that i had to clean it.
my wrist always touches the pad and doesnt move often; though i manage to make big movements (dont ask me how)
i must have just long fingers with large range

To clean the mouse, use cleaning alcohol from a pharmacy.
Dab it on some tissue, and it'll clean any stain on a keyboard or mouse (if the mouse or keyboard is a fake, it'll even clean off the letters on the keyboard ;))

I have a shitty $80 desk and it's not ruining my mouse. I just use it right on the wooden part.

Polaris

That's why I now have a glass pad instead of that shitty black one I used to.

i use the arm of the leather chair i sit in, and use a small corded optical mouse, i do have two cordless ones but it so pisses me off when they run out of batteries at the wrong moment or the base station misses some of the signal. Thus i use the cheapest of the three.

Mx500
Good gaming mouse. Cheaper than the newer MX's.. but worth the money.

Mx1000
Not bad.. But cordless, and heavy. (Do not use if you intend on using it a lot.)

Mx518
Twice the DPI-reaction speed as the Mx500 (Whoa..). Best buy.. But it'll cost you a lot of greenies. :p

Jul 2, 2005, @ 01:11 AM

Doesn't glass deflect optical and laser tracking systems, causing it to move in random directions on your screen when you move it?...

Edit: OMG SWEET DOUBLE POST FTW. I blame it being 2:12 Am.. Sue me.

Juggalo
Jul 2, 2005, @ 01:19 AM
Fuck it, I'm still ordering the 1000.

Polaris
Jul 2, 2005, @ 01:49 AM
well, the 518 is the best if youre gonna stick with optical mice, but the 1000 is a laser mouse, making it superior... not to mention its got a rechargable battery on it :D

the 1k is also $30 more than the 512, too

Juggalo
Jul 2, 2005, @ 01:54 AM
*shrugs* A little late now, I just ordered it.

Polaris
Jul 2, 2005, @ 02:00 AM
the 1000 is superior, anyway
a) its wireless
b) it has a laser sensor (better than the 512)
c) it has a tilt-wheel, rather than a conventional scroll wheel

but you pay for it, too... lol im guessing $10 per feature

.... im still getting the 1000 if i get one

Mx518 Best mouse out there unless you want to go with a razer diamondback then comes Mx1000 bad because its wireless and the heavier the better in my opinion marbzz the thing that sucks with it is the Li-Ion battery they ware out pretty quit though its suppose to charge in secs as time goes the charge with get lower and lower until you have to get a replacement I would rather get a pack of aa or aaa batteries and be done with it then the Mx510 the 500/700/900 are a waste of money because of the pricing on them

Polaris
Jul 2, 2005, @ 08:26 PM
what's so great about it?

Featuring the Logitech MX™ Laser Engine, the MX1000 delivers a new pinnacle of performance no optical mouse can match. With an incredible 20x more sensitivity to surface detail—or tracking power—than optical, laser can track reliably even on tricky polished or wood-grain surfaces.

--edit--
cant find any technical number to speak of, besides 6000+ fps

Jul 2, 2005, @ 11:24 PM
yeah but the mx1000 does not have the response time of the 510 or 518

EDIT: Which is y the 1000 isnt labled a gaming mouse

Polaris
Jul 3, 2005, @ 04:14 AM
do you have any numbers on that?

Fragman
Jul 3, 2005, @ 09:12 AM
and the higher response time is due to the higher dpi the more dots per inch the better the precision and the more dots it reads the better it can catch the slightest movment and due to the fact that is wireless there is no escaping more latent actions and yes rf frequense may be least lantent but there is still the delay

Marb
Jul 3, 2005, @ 09:23 AM
Most say the Razer Diamondback Chameleon (The one FragMan showed?), owns the shit out of every Logitech mouse out there.

Then again.. it's clear as crystal cordless mice are never said to be good gaming mice.

Polaris
Jul 3, 2005, @ 06:34 PM
either way, im sure the mx1000 will perform well for all my RTS needs
