just my $.02:
the bg sux and so does the text
the idea is good, though
i just find it weird that you went from a very ancient-mythilogical theme to a space-scifi theme

The pic sux and thus makes the sig uhm, not pretty, the pic is so pixelly it looks like it came right from the Nintendo 64. Overall it's just a ugly sig...

Haha I'm up for a nice bit of constructive criticism, but I'm not sure if 'bg sux' falls under that category lol. And Hero, we all have our opinions, and I'll accept yours :).. And yeah the pic was hard to work with.. Unlike this one!!:

Hey woa woa!! I'm not here to make enemies!! All I'm trying say is for this sig I don't need any ideas for improvement, as this piece was for Fallen Deity, I know damn well it's not the best, and I know thousands of ways on how to improve it, but Fallen's happy with it, and that's the most important thing in a signature request, right?

trade, happy is not good enough for me; perfection is my only goal in the artistic sense, and if i dont atain what i deem to be perfection, i scrap the project

Well that's all well and good, it's understandable, I aim to achieve the best results I can also. But Fallen didn't request any changes, so what's the point? None the less, I do appreciate comments and criticism, don't think I can't take them, because every comment anyone makes about my work I use to improve on other graphic pieces.
May I ask, do you believe your current sig is 'perfection'?

a) fallen isnt a graphic desiner. we are
b) there is nothing else to do with my comments other than to start over...
c) for the motif i wanted to achieve, yes, my sig is perfect imo. i was able to design exactly what i had in my head, and thus, i am happy with it. got any comments? i'll gladly take them

Jun 12, 2005, @ 11:53 PM
Look you two if people like the sig someone made for them then dont bother smashing their efforts. Asking him to go away is rather unbecomming as he hasnt done anything except try to help someone get a sig. It may be simple but if the person likes it you really have no grounds to critize except that it isnt the best standard in signatures. If you really think its so bad then show him your better version. The graphics department should not be an elitest institution just for you and neb to play around in occasionally tossing praise towards demon. TLSC graphics buisness you can keep to yourselves but not sigs so cut these nontlsc graphic contributors some slack.
NeBuLaDiStOrTiOn
Jun 13, 2005, @ 12:19 AM
i don't think its right for a random person to do our job for us. if they want to make a sig for some1 they can talk about it by private messaging or instant messaging
Weavern
Jun 13, 2005, @ 12:24 AM
What job? He did not ask for anyone in particular for him to make a sig. There is still nothing stopping you from making him a sig and doing this job you claim. If he was doing immediate TLSC buisness like designing the header or a new stamp for bent then yes. But in sig requests unless the poster EXPLICITLY requested that a TLSC member make him a sig then you have no right to complain. As it stands the system for getting sigs done is primarly first come first serve which is useless and rather backwards. He forfilled first come and the recipiant was happy. If you want to outdo him and show him how you would have done better then do that. This has not been demonstrated other then he put the picture requested a background and some text into sig format. Perfection is an illusion and depends on the observer, if the observer likes it then it is good enough in his or her mind.
I'm playing the devil's advocate here but this is not your place to be critizing everyone who comes here and posts something which helps someone. Grow up or do the job better to show off how it might have been done better. As it stands this department at least from a sig perspective is growing conceated.

2nd time i posted that 2day, idk if this is right... but ya.. i agree with these rules
this is the TLSC graphic department, is it not?
Polaris
Jun 13, 2005, @ 04:54 AM
hmm
i give it the "owned" stamp (dammit.. i need to make one of those)
weav, im pretty sure by posting in TLSC graphics forums, they implicitly ask for TLSC graphics personel; however, i am not personally against non-TLSC people making sigs--but as it stands now, i will critisize any and every sig i find posted here in these forums-- demon will tell you that. it is my staunch position that only through the flames of criticism do we become better, and, as i live and breathe, the only reason i am what i am today is because of peer criticism.
again: if you cant take the heat, get out of the kitchen
ok, but i need to vindicate myself, too. you will also notice that in each of my criticisms i try to find something good in it. for instance, in this case, i said the idea was good but the motifs clashed. thats one good thing and one bad thing, although the good thing may seem heavily outweighed by the bad. at least i try.

I thank TredCentral for his efforts in making me a sig - so far he has made me two, both of which i think own. On the other hand, i posted my sig request almost 2 weeks ago and so far the TLSC graphics department has flamed everything TredCentral has done but hasn't made anything. All this talk that you could do better, Neb and Polaris, is one thing but can you really? Go on, make a better sig, i dare ya....
Polaris
Jun 13, 2005, @ 08:38 PM
i like the new sig... its very nice. the text is kinda out of the way, but it could easily be a desired effect.
as i've told others, artistic creativity for me comes in fits. if i see something that gets my brain going, it just... happens. dont ask me how.... right now im kinda in a half-creative state, so im not making anything good atm

Thanks Weavern for your help man, that's exactly how I see it, Fallen didn't request any changes so I didn't change it.
Also, Neb, it may be your job to fulfill signature requests, so why not actually do them, then? Fallen had been requesting a signature for quite a while, no one offered anything other than Polaris, so he came to me. I done one for him he was happy with, and to be honest, I can't see anything wrong with that.
Thanks for your comments on the new one Polaris. And about the text, I tried to make it almost unnoticable so it didn't deduct from the atmosphere, if you know what I mean, it's not the best I know, but it needed to be minimalistic.

mmmm
ok, here's my font-redo on that
http://www.polaris408.no-ip.org/sigs/fallenDiety.png
im not in love with that particular font (its CorporateHQ if youre wondering), but i like the effect a lot better
i didnt save the psd, but here's what i did (since im liable to forget)
white text color
blending options: advanced blending: opacity: 10%
drop shadow: 120 degrees, default everything else
outer glow: color: white, default everything else
color overlay: color: white, blending: overlay, 100% opacity
stroke: color: black, size: 1px, position: center, 50% opacity
also, are there any reasons why you prefer png over jpg? im curious...

u wouldnt like the sig i make so i don't want to bother, plus, no time. i usually only make ppl sigs unless i am super bored or they specifically ask me to.
tred, if u want to make sigs for ppl in tlsc and do it on these forums; join tlsc and get in the graphic department.

weav, do you mean the font or the effect? if you mean the former, go and pick out a new one.. the latter, i did because that was the original intention-- to be as out of the way as possible... i just sexed it up a bit
fallen, you can bootleg off my server if you like. the link is http://www.polaris408.no-ip.org/sigs/fallenDiety.png

Polaris is making good points, you should listen to him even when he criticizes your work.
Neb, please stop flaming people here. You're aggressively cutting away people's creative talents, and frankly, possibly cutting off their desire to be in the department. I've not posted on these boards for several weeks, but I am getting complaints from people about newcomers getting shot down.
I created the rules post you refer to because you had a problem with the situation beforehand. I'm not even sure if anyone else had a problem with non-members making sigs, and I'm not sure if I did the right thing in posting it.
This orginization is not supposed to be cliquish. It seems like its getting more and more so every time i come back and read the boards. The graphics department is not God's Gift of Great Graphics Artists, and sooner or later some non-TLSC member is going to come along and post a sig that is better than anything any of us could do. Are you going to ridicule him for posting since he's not this, not that?
