Two of the "greatest" most anticipated, and biggest games of all time being released in the same month = game surviving on concept and cult following with poor development support dies

rofl I never seen any of these
guess no worth seeing... cuz fps sux0r

Though I have a theory 'bout this crap nowadays <puts on glasses and pulls out notebook>

Our generation of RTS players (I mean the ppl who started on hw) was a great one and from everything I heard about the old days back in 1998/1999 when hw1 and cata were so absorbing. The old schools like fc, chiken and TLSC still work great, keeping the wisdom and gaming virtues from the past alive. Everyone who forms such independent and interesting groups seem to become iluminated in some meaning, leaving the lama's and noob's way of looking at games and gameplay.

The problem is that not everyone will always be interested in mp, due to real life reasons like simple interests change. They don't support the communities anymore, causing their base to die and making gaming dull. I dunno why, but it's just the way it is. Just look at DoW -- there are ppl and groups who known each other for years (the mentioned chikens, fc, lsc) and the relations between 'em are great. It's sad to see them leaving you alone with newcomers. I guess you now my point.

The same applies for hw2, gc2 and DoW, although there are minor differences between the causes of lack of oldschoolers.

hw2 -- this game is said by many to be only a shadow of hw1's greatness. Well, I love it, and until like 100 other ppl won't love it, it will never be the same as hw1.

gc2 -- well, also said to be a shadow of gc1, though this problem lies more in stupid community and stupid devs (via the last patch... murderers... :yech:)

DoW -- seems like it is not enough. This game is fun, this game has potential, but again -- devs weren't thinking too much while deving it. Some declare its boring like hell, some that it's just stupid, others blablabla... No end to arguments'

Finally

ffs too many kidz got internet nowadays. Back then you couldn't cry to yer mommy for it so most mp games were mostly between ppl aged 16+ , who had some kind of maturity... Now just look what kids done to gc2.... and hope it won't happen to other games....

now you understand my R.E.L.I.C post crystal.

Game is good, potential is there, SHIT followup. If i were relic I would have had a race expansion available and second patch available because I knew these (3 actualy Halo2,HL2, Bloodlines) games were gonna kick my nuts...

But hey what do I know....

Ya there gonna be hardball competition. And I agree with the problem of young kids Getting into the mix more often then not really can be irritating with there stupid imature acts and stupid things they find funny. But ya if Relic worked a little harder to get patches out balance things that alone will keep players playing more often. I personally will kick ork players now =x On the other hand I havnt looked at the game bloodline, Hl2 I need to c more of to c if Id give it my time (personally im quite sure of myself id rather be playing planetside If I were to play an fps, So I stilll c DoW living since its a brand new rts and fps dont greatly appeal to many players.) Halo never ever got 1 inkling of my attention, so why would halo2. There were by far shooters out there like planetside, counterstrike, (never played half life).

Yeah, but you have to remember, PC's games never stand up to console games. . . it's a fact.

Foree
Nov 20, 2004, @ 09:05 PM
A console will never give me the same pleasure like a PC -- if it's about RTS games. It's just classic, the hotkey keyboard punching, mice constricking, yelling uncensorable words not to mention stuff like TSing while playing or keeping an eye on the forums ah the pleasure... Besides playing on a scree larger than 17' would make me go sick.

Although I know that some consoles will offer (offer already..?) keyboards, mouses and online play, though it will be never the same as good old pc punching.

So kidz... go get the consoles if you want to eat shit online

JADezimar
Nov 20, 2004, @ 09:05 PM
Thats to the general public. And thats only do to consoles being cheaper. StarCraft still has enough of a population ppl can get on and play o0.

Its no doubt in my mind that high end computer owners prefer computer games. Especially those online. Comon the keyboard and mouse is way more intuitive than a controller. The only problem I c for the future is when consoles are Very online based. (ill tell you something right now if Nintendo dont take advantage of the online market next generation I am definitely dissowning them. Allthough there handheld ds looks godly)

Well, I'll troll around in the dark. Tabletop glory days that will soon return once I have enough time, will have me playing DoW solely on this concept and cult. I'm sure I can say the same for Erik. So you'll see us around...wonder who else though :(

The old console vs pc argument....

If you want to just play - get consoles.

If you want to do more than that - develop maps, work on mods, browse internet in the background, use messaging - no way you can do it without pc. And this is talking about games only, not to mention non-game programs on pc.

Mistress Crystal

Vacio - Console games are birthed from PC.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

JADezimar
Nov 21, 2004, @ 12:56 AM
agreed on that one. Plus computer games have better graphics, Controls etc. And Most computer games are higher quality. Again teh reason why consoles sell so well is cause there less expensive, More of the population can afford this type of gaming.

Mistress Crystal
Nov 21, 2004, @ 06:32 AM
And computer monitors display graphics -so- much nicer than TV screens.

agreed JAD. you dont have to spend $500+ every year to keep your console capable of playing the newest coolest games.

BAh, i think WoW is gonna kill DoW

JADezimar
Nov 21, 2004, @ 07:56 AM
WoW is no way related to DoW its totaly different genre how will it do that ? Plus WoW is so hyped up to be what its not. Its already been discussed how guildwars would be better than WoW let alone all the other possible games.

We are going through a low in the population due to people playing hl2, and h2. Nothing new about that, a new game comes out and attracts people attention, but dow will have its patch work ready for when the initial blurr wears off, hell by then they might release their equivelent of insect invasion for dow. Which IMO would be the best gift for early 2005 for the dow community. DOW isnt dead yet, you just lost about 1/2 the people to go play h2 and hl2 for a while, RTS have good staying power and with some of the mods comming out I'd not be suprised if people return to play the tau mod, the necron mod, the IG mod, the GK mod, etc, etc. There are allot of great mods in development for dow which will appeal to all the TT people. I dont know if this is a fact but I doubt that most of the TT people are really heavily into FPS as it would detract from their ability to create models and compose armies :D

Relic community is notorious for vaporware or never quite finished mods...not holding my breath.

Almost as bad as relic with their halfarsed deadline exusable jobs...

guys, i hate to say it, but if DoW dies, TLSC is going to have a tough time. with the GC2 division dead, along with CoD, SG, and then you have HW2 hanging on by a single thread called nostalgia...well...we have nothing but UT2k4...but try as he may, apoc cannot make that game into something it isnt...an RTS. i love edit: FPS. (thanx kuja)', and while i play and get skilled at them, i can never get full on into them like i can with a great RTS; im sure most of you feel the same way. we have to make DoW work. im sure if we were a/THE top organization, like in GC2, you would enjoy and play it more. I will train anyone at any race; the same goes for MVB I'm sure. If you are dedicated to making TLSC great in DoW it will take work, but...its about keeping ourselves afloat guys. Sink or swim.

Likewise, if you're online and none of TLSC is to be found, check back here and add me on MSN or...something! Most likely I'll be around, and well, half the time I'm not gaming for the same reasons. Boo on playing with randoms! So yeah, if it's really a desert out there, drop me a message, if I'm around, I'll game. I'm not a bad player ;)

Gotta agree woth Laser (wow, can't believe I just said that), DoW was slated to be TLSC's main game after hw2, but it's not much more alive now that HW2 is. Without some major upgrade in playability it prolly won't surive long, I suspect.

Either we make this work or we find another 'main game', TLSC is fractured, but let's discuss this at the weekend.

:imwithstu

Raz you insane?

HW2: Rough assumption: ~ 60 ppl on average per hour. I bet its significantly less.

DoW: Rough assumption: ~ 300 - 400 ppl on average per hour.

Damnit, show me a HW2 lobby with more than 70 ppl!

ilia

Laser ffs I play everyday. And everyday, there are 180 - 200 ppl on Solar, and ~ 100 at Mordant.

Which is ~ 300.

Think before you doubt my loyalty to the Game.
