to draw a face u have to study each part, practice drawing lips, eyes, noses, ears, blah blah blah
(this will sound crazy but it works like 80% of the time) then sketch those same parts upside down, and at different angles - looking at things from unusual perspectives helps me, and a lot of other people to sketch out something... but if u are drawing from a real life model u can't.. which is why i suggest practicing off a picture before you start real objects and people
look at what u drew and then compare it to the persons face, or whatever u happen to be drawing, then, answer these questions:
Does yours look different then the real picture/model/whatever?
How is it different?
How can you change that difference?
drawing from a picture and real life things and people is very hard to get real good at, the best thing is to practice
ask lots of people what they think of your drawing, ask them what can be improved, and what u can do better next time
btw,
when i say study i mean look at the figure for a while, look how the shading is, look at the different textures, look how things are proportioned- example:

This is Usher, he is hot. :oohoo:
Anyway, look at his face. Do you see how the right tip (ur right) of his lip is on a invisible vertical line inbetween the left tip of his ear and his eye? And if you draw a invisible line under both eyes it kinda ends up in the middle if his ear? Do you see how his eyebrows are a different texture then the hair on his head? (different pattern) Ok, now squint while looking at the picture. Do you see the dark spots of his face? (above eyes, nostrils, between his lips, sides of face, etc) Now see the highlights? (middle of nose, forehead, upper cheek, even that little white line above the top lip, etc etc) notice the little things, and when you do, you will become a better drawer.
