Well I got utterly bored of DoW and was involved in a thread on the chikens forum about them all starting to play eve now with 14 day trials, so i went back for a month, and the game is SO much more fun now. Celtic and our alliance is in a war with like 2 alliances and 30 corps, and its constant warfare. I've been involved in killing 3 ships so far in 3 days, and lost 2 ships of my own. Half the corp is in empire mining replacement ships for all the fighters, so all the fighters dont ever have to mine :).

Me and Bast went on a little pirating the other day in empire, found a poor defenseless mining party and killed them, was fun. Let me tell you, there is NOTHING like having fun by ruining others fun. Destroying a ship that it took a person a month of work to get is so awesome :).

And then me and Ez and Rebus tried to take on a battleship and me and rebus got pwned :(.

But yeah, I'm posting this to see if anyone wants to make a 14 day trial or something and come gank some people with me.

And stealth, renew for a month and come kill FA... we lost querious and delve and period basis, we are guerilla fighting in period basis right now :(.

It did suck balls, but did you fight pvp at all angel, or did u just mine? Cause the entire time I played w/ u, it was all mining. Remember, I left before you because I was sooo frikkin bored how everyone mined... i wanted action! But now its kill or be killed every day, its heart-thumping-in-your-chest craziness when you start fighting... and small ships are so amazing to fight in, cause u go soooo fast. So far I've killed 3 and lost 2, so its a positive result :).

I suppose the PvP aspect could be pretty enthralling, however, is it still not a double edged sword? In order to get a bad ass Tempest with the right armaments you need to mine to get the isk?

All my skills were Level 5 in Mining, Learning, Spaceship Command etc etc and I think I had one level 2 in weaponry :lol:

I always tried to get it by closest as I didnt give a shit if it was more expensive or not. I know I got Astrogeology and I had to go about 37 jumps and that was the straw that broke the camels back :lol:

no offence drunk, but i been playing pvp from the day i left celts, and my cruiser serups are 2nd to none, im also trained for assualt frigs and soon assualt cruisers

i like the caldari harpee and the elite moa but i'd yet ot test them, the elite rupture could be best bang for buck tho

100mn ab/web/scrambler
3 cap relays

Owns any frig, all they can do is stay outside 10km, which means they are effectively worthless.

current is rupture, 3 hvy launchers, 3 small neuts, 100mn ab 10mn mwd a web or a warp, i usually use warp, 4 relays and a small armour

shiva removes duel drive ships so i'll tell you my raven and crow setup too

raven 2x named 100mn mwd, 5 cruise launchers, 1 siege, large automated(ithink) armour repairer (best in game) 2 medium nos, 4 hvy drones 10 light drones and the rest cap recharger 2's and relays for the raven, means i can tank decent damage but can burn 60k in 20 seconds or auto repeat them 3 times

crow 1mn t2 ab, best named 10mn ab, webifier named, 3 bets named launchers, kills battleships you know...

if you want to be sucicidal try a t2 10mn ab and a warp scramb to compliment your web, i normally fit a balistic control too and some aux cores too, or you can be stupid and fit a t2 mwd...

I have a character with about 7 million skill points, most of which invested into frigates/inty/assault frigs, with above average cruiser skills (amarr only, I was involved in the PIE/Origin RP pvp stuff). Haven't played in a while though.

I'd say the curve is about an hour. There is no leveling of any sort, just skill training that is based on your attributes and takes place whether your online or not (higher attributes will grant faster training times in certain skills) so picking up skills is limited by how much money you have, prerequisite skills trained, and how far you want to fly.

As for fun... I lost all interest in it. Aside from PvP there is little to nothing for you to do. It looks like there are limitless options at first glance, but it just isn't so. And after PvPing for months, it just got old to me. The RP PvP thing helped, was actually more fun than ganking and such, but by that point it was too late.

If your just going to do the 14 day trial, stay in frigs and swarm people. :)

How high is the learning curve? There is so much to do in Eve that the curve can be high - depending on what route you take. You can be a super miner, bounty hunter, pirate or PvP player and each different character type require different character traits.

Skills are all over 5 levels. Level 1 - 2 generally take about a day to learn. Levels 3 - 5 between 2-9 days per level.

This game requires a LOT of income to get a good ship, get skills, insure your good ship etc.

This game takes a LOT of playing so you need to be prepared to devote a lotof time to it. Turn your back for 5 mins in space and some asshole can hand you a shitburger just for fun!

The game is extremely deep, and there is so much to learn about the politics and ways things work in the Eve universe. It takes a hell of a lot longer than an hour.

you will be completley lost without a player corp, so go find one or join celts where the tlsc went to when they were newb

basicially if your on a 14day trial, you want to get high friugate skills and go kill some people in 0.0 space, rather than mine or npc hunt in safe space

when you built your char, make sure to pick all the atributes that give you frigate level +1 because lv4 takes like a day or 2 to get and u cna have it form the start, then you can ask for a 500k or 1mil loan fomr most tlsc (not me im offline broke pc and onyl have 3mil in cash, and 200mil in battleships and cruisers)

basicially, mining and npc hunting etc most ways to make moneya re boring as hell to be honest, but if you take the time you can buy some gr8 shit and have a laff, personally i never bother to make money i just kill people, which is why im always broke, unless i find some good loot from their corpses

if im online anytime soon i'll be happy to flyout and help ppl learn the game or give them a free frig, also eve is upgrading november 12th or sometime after with al new shiney features and player controlled starbases

Well Quietus, I'd expect that once you have 7+ mil skillpoints, you were prolly playing for like 4-5 months or something? I get bored of anything after 4-5 months... DoW held my interest for a month.

And Kraft, all the FL and hw guys are all still playing. In fact, Evol/BoB (their corp/alliance) just declared war on our current enemies, FA :banana:

Learning curve is high, but short if you have people telling you what to do and what not to do. And as long as you stick to frig warfare for a little while you will never have to mine... thank god. I'll provide anyone with cash, and if I run out I can always ask Ez who now has 20 billion or so in assets o_O.

Skill training time varys. Most lvl 1 skills take 30 mins to train, lvl 2 takes 2 hours, lvl 3 like 8 hours, lvl 4 a day, lvl 5 like 9 days.

But rank 2,3,4,5 skills take much longer... training minmatar cruiser to lvl 5 would take me 29 days. However you can lower all training times with learning skills, advanced learning skills, and implants.

DJ, yeah you p00nt me, but that was my first PVP and I had a horrible rupture setup :).

I'd just like to say that yesterday I had the most fun I've ever had with Eve, maybe with any game ever. I was cruising around the pipe/upper querious/A2, looking for frigs or haulers to gank, and unsuspectingly was ambushed by a QDF/FIX patrol consisting of an inty (Taranis) and a superior cruiser (Rupture). I was in a Stabber, so of course I didn't want to engage head on. I was able to jump away, and then hugged the gate in A2. They both warped in to a Safespot about 350km away, saw where I was, and decided to attack. However, the inty was able to align much faster than he cruiser, and arrived at me like 30 seconds before. That was enough time for me to lock + web + scramble + capdrain him, and with 4 med pulse I took him to structure in seconds. However now the rupture arrived and began to scramble me and engaged with his own lasers. The rupture was using my rupture setup, the bitch! I quickly tried to eliminate the inty, and he somehow got away with full damage... I mean 1 more shot woulda killed him. So it was now me vs the Rupture. I outgunned him 4-3 lasers, and I had 2 cap drainers, but he had 3 heavy launchers as well as more armor, shields, and cap. We began to engage in a long dance as I webbed and drained him, and was actually winning as I quickly took him to armor. However, my laser advantage didn't matter once he reached armor, as lasers do jack shit to armor. And once MY shields were down, it was a 3 missile kinetic damage salvo, wrecking my armor to 1/2. My small armor rep 2 couldnt keep up with the damage. Just then, the inty jumped back in, looking to try and get a piece of the kill. I knew I was going down, so I figured I'd take that bastard with me. His shields had recharged about 1/2, but thats not much on a frig. I locked him, webbed him, scrambled him again, and opened with my lasers, and once again he was at 99.99999999% damage, and I knew he was finsihed with 1 more shot... except then I missed 6-8 shots in a row, and died to the missile storm.

Then I got podded :(.

If I had killed that inty it woulda been a victory for me, as my stabber cost 4 mil and a taranis is like 8 mil. So I came out with a ALMOST kill :(. But it was such an awesome fight that I wasn't even pissed off, and the Taranis pilot was like "Wow I cant believe I lived..." And I did pretty well in a 1v2 against 2 superior ships flown by more experienced pilots.

It was absolutely insane dude, my heart was THUMPING in my chest.

And I haven't mined since I got back like a week ago, Ez and rebus gave me some money and I've been living off that, lost 2 frigs and 2 cruisers so far... cruisers and frigs are SO fun to fly with double mwd/ab, you go like 4km/sec and are still well armed and armored. I'm trying to sell my tempest for 95 mil, that will buy me like 15 cruisers, and I'll just live off that.

Even the noncombat now is crazy, roaming around in 2s and 3s looking for targets for hours, its like being an Indian tracker, tracking enemies by local and map, and then the exhiliration of finally finding that elusive target and gleefully chasing him, and then the horror when it turns out that lone frig that was running from you was actually leading you into a trap and 2 BS jump in on you, and then you run run run as fast as you can and you are literally praying to the gods that you can outfly them, that they arent setup for pure speed, that the frig you were previously chasing does something stupid and somehow fails to scramble you at the next gate. And I love makinbg scanning spots like 45,000km away from a gate and scanning ships that enter the system, jump and chase what we can tackle... and the combined arms is crazy, frigs are so invaluable now as tacklers, so now cruisers have a role as frig killers, so its no longer just blobs of BS fighting eachother.

I dunno maybe I'm just insane all of a sudden and the game still sucks, but I DEFINATLY wasn't having this much fun when I played from feb-may.

What really sets eve apart for me is the fact that no matter what you are doing, your skills are still training. So theres not a sense of "Omg im not killing npcs and doing quests i'm never gonna have enough xp and will get pwned all the time by____!!!!!1111" which is how I feel other mmorpgs like EQ work (never played so I don't know). Hell, you could not play for 2 days and still get 2 days worth of training done.

Theres a server problem right now with them tweaking hardware settings and network code for the upcoming (within a week) free expansion, which means that large fleet battles are even more lagged than ever, if more than 50-60 people fight its almost unberable, where in the past you could have 2 80man fleets engauging with minor lagg

but they'll fix it after the expansion deployment

If you plan on playing for a little while, get all your learning to at least lvl 4, if you plan on playing more than 6 months, get them all to level 5. Having this will let you get in much more training time overall (at a sacrifice of more fun skills at the start).

Also, I mined for about 2 days when I started Eve. I never mined again because it was boring as hell. You could still make isk from rats/convoys/etc, its even easier now that rats have increased isk rewards.

My hint, stay in a frig, train all learning to at least level 3/4, 5 if you plan on playing a while. Take your frig, kill low level rats, or raid convoys until your learning is done. Then utilize learning to train rockets up, and commence beatdown.

if your only going to be a 14day trial, train a combat character to lv4 frigate on the build char sereen by selecting thr gith options and reselection firgate lv as u go

basicially you'll have most of ur combat skills, get some ab skills and amrour/sheild boosting skills more weapons, soem drones, propulsion jamming, and then have some1 take you for some pvp killing

you should azk eze what we have done to sa and cfs etc, my rupture, 3 oc cruisers 3 frigs and 2 bs survives a station assualt where they had over 10 bs and kept dying redocking and bringing out a new one, lol i was runnign fogures of eight around 5 of them tacking the cunts and killing al their drones cruisers and frigs for over 20min

OK I went EvE online most of last night. Caldari ? Spelt right ? I blew the tutorial. ( heh ). I took a mission from the insurance agent , some wine to veisto V , moon4 etc...etc....after two other such 'missions' I was intent on finding another base and selling it. Yes a step into my pirate career. Some blighter pirated me. !!! As I only have that lowly gatling gun. But I fought a brave fight. Maybe I bruised his pride with my mighty gatling. My base was the School of Applied Science. YuK, they dont sell weapons. I also mined a little and sold it all for denero. I dont get the 'refining' thing I refine it but where does it go ? So after doing that twice and nothing to show for it I began to quick sell everything I mined or stole.

Question about flotsam, can it be picked up ? Especially if it is a Cargo Container ? How too ? In Freelancer there were Tractor Beams. What kind of staions sell weapons and ships ?

The name in EvE is Werms , a standard Kraftwerk RPG name. I need better weapons. And really if you kill someone can you take their booty ? Do you drag it into your Cargo Hold like in the tutorial ?

Well last night was my first night actually PVP. From what I understand talks are underway with FA for a peace between us, our main reason being that for the past 3 weeks we have been handing Orion their ass. If this happens, then we can be back in PB, business as usual. As far as Shiva goes, the new POS (player owned stations) will add a new aspect to the game. Setting it up near a good moon, and having to mine ice fields for the station consumption of goods. I personally can't wait to see what the mining barges will do, although I know they will need major carebear groups with them. From what I am told we plan on having atleast 2 POS in PB, and if we can have peace with FA and get a new aliance with DSMA and another corp who's name i can't think of, things will be looking up greatly. I don't follow the politics that much, but I know I'm ready to go back home for good LOL.

Oh well liked that pirate. Ima getting rich mining where I can and buying shiled gens and selling in the rim or whatever I can pick up along the way. Reminder to self DONOT pirate O.R.E. cargo containers. 8) This game reminds me of Freelancer but better. In the Crux ( shyt ) ??? system now ? Somewhere abouts there.
