The US and Israel undoubtedly have the worlds most advanced armies in terms of technology. Israel is the only state with an anti-ballistic-missile missile (note: a purely DEFENSIVE system), and one of the first to develop pilot-less drones (both for reconnaissance and attack). US developed stealth and humungus aircraft carriers.
As far as training, I think the UK and Australian special forces are the most highly trained, flexible and effective soldiers in the world.
EDIT: Israel also developed a rifle that can shoot around corners! No joke!

ICBM, MX-Peacekeeper... designed to make obsolete the soviet anti ballistic missile shield over moscow... primary icbm of the US... has 10~12 micro war heads in each 4 stage rocket that break away from each other over a target and explode in a cluster pattern. this has the added benfit of destroying more targets with less materal.
F22-Rapter, currently regarded as the world's finest dog fighter. It has helmet guided targeting that allows the weapons to lock on to a target just by the pilot looking at it.
JSF-replacement to the harrier and f14... decent fighter, super sonic, super cruise, hover... etc.
I could go on... but the strength of the US forces is in quality. Most enemy forces compensate by out numbering us... this we compensate for by out ranging them until the numbers difference is broken... they counter this by going to ground and integrating with the host population... we are and will counter this by using a robotic frontline with special forces. This will limit the hit they give us and we can maintain a good K/D ratio.
The future of US war tactics will be TOTAL battlefield consciousness. A live and detail picture of the whole battlefield which will be integrated with theatre operations... then linked into automated and manned assets so that the whole army works like one giant all seeing united organism.

That's probably WHY he doesn't know half this stuff ;)
At a guess, he's probably more interested in "peace" marches and stuff than the military, whose job effectively is to kill people :)
Personally I'm just interested in military stuff. I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I was younger. I love planes. The best days out I've ever had are at air shows... Farnborough '04 was brilliant!

We collaborate with you... but your tech is about as much yours as the chinese tech isn't russian. No need to get into pissing contests about this, you know damn well the US is there for you. :)

wow, a pro bush brit... I thought you guys were exinct or something...
Well... we're making heads up displays for radio opperators and some officers... we're researching robotic tanks... we're already using talon and sword robotic soldiers... we're using unmanned spy drones and we're working on super sonic and stealth unmanned fighters and bombers...
the basic idea is that when the army bleeds it bleeds oil and when it shoots, its from one of a hundred directions that the enemy didn't even see.

yea i agree with Mannless veichles prabably cheaper and less of our people are dieing about it.
and about Pro Bush Brits (me also) i hate it when People say americans are dumb lol, i mean hellow have you seen what the fuck a difference they've made to mankind!?!?!?! in the past 200 or so years America is probably the most successfull when coming to advancing but not when it comes to crime, i mean the wright to own a fire arm in america is blatently took advantage of.

robots are a lot cheaper to lose then people... They don't sleep, they don't go home after a few years, they're ready to go right out of a box, and in real terms you can lose as many as the factory pumps out. In a real serious war, the side using robots will long long out last the enemy.
As to crime, most people that commite crimes with guns didn't buy them or go through the right channels to get them. They stole them, got them from dodgy pawn shops, or bought them off one of the street gangs.
Nearly all of our crime comes from the so called criminal classes making war on each other. Take my city for instance, we have roughly 800 murders a year here. Of those murders over 600 of them are gang related and they all happen in one small portion of the city.
So is my city dangerious? Not unless you're a drug pusher in South Central... if you are, then you're lucky to make it to old age... most in that profession get killed by other drug pushers fighting over 'turf', drugs, and money.

Bah, military's *job* isn't to kill people. It's to extend force to accomplish any and all goals of the state, as proscribed by that state's constitution and laws. The military is about controlling the theatre...killing is simply one of the mechanisms by which it is accomplished. Much military innovation is in command&control, rather than in inventing superrior weapons. Even the superior weapons of the U.S. are made most useful by the strong chain of command and the effective communication/coordination abilities of the armed forces.

Well, it's important to draw the distinction between a "military" which is well-equipped with lethal weapons and a Military with a strong chain of command and effective command&control. Once more people realize that, they can clarify the way they think about the armed forces.

Military doctrine is often over looked, but the hardware makes it pretty irrelevant if all you want to do is kill the enemy WWII style. It only becomes important when the enemy has a prayer in hell of shooting you back... which considering our hardware isn't very likely in most cases.
