Yes. If the button's metal, running a 200000V current through it should deter them.

you can do it the ugly way, and take a flathead screwdriver (or similar device) and pry the sucker out of your keyboard (i've seen many a gamer pull the windows key out of theirs)
however! this button is obviously not standard regulation, which means a program is interperating the button's signal for windows. if you can find this program, you can disable the button.
if you wouldnt mind posting what model of keyboard it is if you bought it, or what computer it came with if you didn't.

I'd bet the settings are in the control panel somewhere. Also, your keyboard drivers are the ones communicating with the keyboard, look for an icon on the right side of the taskbar that handles your keyboard drivers, you may be able to get to the settings from there.

Its usually in the Control Panel -->Keyboard -->Key Settings Tab(or Hotkeys)

Under Key Settings there are options where you could replace any of the optional buttons with nothing or another program shortcut. So in your case locate Power and click on the drop down menu and replace it with none.

Some PCs doesn't allow you to change hotkeys in the Keyboard setting. It depends on what type of keyboard you have. If you can't find the tab in the Keyboard settings I guess you could try Polaris' suggestion. ;)

LOL

I tried many ways to disable mine (as it's right between the arrow keys and the Delete/End/PgDn keys). I even tried to nullify some value in the registry... nada. :P
