View Full Version : HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TLSC + GREAT CONTEST GREAT PRIZES!

Well, it's official.
The Lone Star Command is now FIVE years old.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, I'm going to hold a competition of sorts. This competition is open to ALL members of the Command. It requires a little research.
The 2 members who can write the MOST complete and concise histories of TLSC will receive a computer game of choice, courtesy of yours truly. In the case of MMORPGs, this prize includes EITHER 3 months of montly fees OR the game itself. The game preferably would be a game TLSC has a division in that you wish to try, so (DoW, WoW, UT2k4, HW2, Eve, etc.), BUT I'm open to other options if you really do a good job.
You MUST research this by questioning members of TLSC, old and new, and finding out all the info you can about the little stuff on down. I won't offer tips, but finding out who is old and who is what and who is etc. and engaging in conversations reminiscing with them MIGHT be useful.
Part of the intention here is to get you all to know each other better by finding out a little something from everyone.
There is no max or min to the length of your submission. PM or e-mail me your submission. Best, most concise 2 histories win the prize.
BEST of luck to submissions, and congratulations TLSC. Couldn't be prouder of the accomplishments of the last 5 years.

There are 2 winners, so even if you can't beat stealth (which isn't set in stone), you should still apply.

Happy Birthday, TLSC.
Happy 1st Anniversary to many of you, including myself, Apoc, and Magus, among many others who were recruited last February. Truly one of the best months recruiting-wise in TLSC history - look at where those members stand now.

As I've been here longest, I have the general best position from which to judge, and it's my money. I'll ask for help if I have trouble deciding. Turn-out isn't high yet, so bad-english Euros should still try to apply :)
Quality and accuracy of information over quality of writing for THIS time anyway.

I've been around almost 2 years, I know what I know from convo's in game, lobby's and TS. But I'm not going to write anything, except I know MVB and Stealth has worked hard to make TLSC what it is today, and I'm glad to be apart of it.
Happy B-day TLSC.

LOL BLACKSAND I like your year 3 Summary "hear The Lamentation Of Their Women". I still say that at the beginning of nearly every HW2 game I play as a smurf. I got it from my friend Conan, A.K.A. Strontiumdog, Egbinigbe, VaygrRaiders2, Rougetrooper_LS, also he has a shit load of names with the word "vaygr" in it. He has ALOT more names almost as many as me I wont divulge any more of his info since he likes to stay somewhat anonymous kinda like myself.

Actually, all of that post is from Conan. Even better, is the lamentation of their women part was even worked into a song on the Brak Show for Cartoon Network a while back. Funny stuff.

im not going to participate - not with a 4 year absence, but if anyone wants to know about the 'early' days or second era of tlsc or whatever you want to call the days when me mvb skibb and ratamaq were the best players on won, therefore tlsc was the best on won. And stealth was a won camping little man hussy. Your more than welcome to ask me.
saying that, mvb said 'i'm out like a fat chick playing dodge ball' to me the other day and it was suppose to remind me of those days... it didnt - i just put it down to mvb being american and left it alone. poor mvb, ill work on getting you citizenship, dont worry.

My History of TLSC.
Back in 1999, a certain Yank by the name of Mike Brandt, formed The Lone Star Command. No one is sure yet if he was to be the "Lone Star" of his own singular clan, however, it soon became evident to most players on the WON lobby that this guy was talented in the ways of Somtaaw rushing - especially with the famed Missolyte rush.
Stealth was soon to come on board and dedicated 2-3 years Hard Time of sitting in the WON lobby and chatting 10 times more than he ever played!
Back in the days of old many different clans battled for supremacy and the ever growing numbers of TLSC players did not tangle in the many feuds that were to happen there. The Command had recuited many old timers like Deathfang, Dalaaji, J-Pooley, static, skibb and many others. These guys, among others, were able to give the old clans like The Wolf Pack, Chiken, BC, BDU and PSA a run for their money in any team game.
TLSC soon became known as formidable adversaries with excellent and unique strategies. Many of the of the clans were putting out "Feelers" about how to join and it soon looked like TLSC could have an influx of new blood from many of the older.
While the constant political flux of clan hopping in Homeworld Cataclysm was becoming a problem - MVB decided to implement something new. TLSC was to become a community wide group that allowed players from any clan - or those clanless players - to join TLSC as a squad. These squads would then battle each other with special insignias and medals being awarded to those who performed the most admirably.
Thus was born the competitive gaming group that is TLSC.
Many players flocked to Join and squads from guru, TWP, DU, STA, AoK and many others became members of this new gaming league. Among these was Bentusiguru, SirPsycho (known as SnowwolfTWP back then - I may be wrong but he was defo a TWP) and a little unknown player called ArchangelAoK which was n00by me!
TLSC flourished and several Tournaments were held with great success - if memory serves me right - StaticBiB/guru (Our very own stats) was the first winner of the TOC.
Then something dreadful happened - MVB broke his HWC disc and, being a cheapskate, decided never to replace it. During this time there was no clear chain of command. Stealth was a lobby hooker and never cared to play too much and no one was there to take the reins and propel the community forward and, after about a year it met with a flatline and seemed to be dead to the world.
From time to time I would bump into Daalaji or Deathfang on WON and we would always put on our TLSC tags for a game - many of the n00bs cursing "Who is this new TLSC clan"!!
Then the unthinkable happened - TLSC had a rebirth with the release of Homeworld 2! Stealth created a temporary new site and old skool players came flocking back in droves. LazyChiken, AngelChiken, Journier, Sir Psycho, Bentusiguru and others came back to The Command.
TLSC attracted much attention from the new Gamespy lobby and, much like in Homeworld Cataclysm, attracted the eye of many players. Flo, Ezekielh, Forsaken, FluxX, DJ, Justice, Nebuladistortion, Blazz, Ummon, Folko, Foree, Blueviper and many others soon joined and TLSC experienced a phenomenal growth in a short space of time.
Many of the older clans were astonished - and a little ticked off - that TLSC were recruiting so fast and so furiously. TLSC even had suas and silencio in their ranks for a short time!
Then we hit a problem with some of the older clans. PSA and then Chiken decided that they would not allow dual membership in any formand forbid their members from being in both. These two clans alone lost some of the best Homeworld 2 players in the history of the game. Drunk, Apocalypse, Magus and Blacksand were some of the top players who left PSA to become Lone Star Commanders in their own right.
Drunk and Apocalypse soon started branching out into other games and the GC2 and UT2004 divisions started with just as much success as the HW2 division. Many great members like Kyle, The Dark Messenger, laserlip, Elysium etc etc were brough on board and immediately added a new dimension to The Command.
Expansion was the name of the game and moves to Eve, Call of Duty, BFME and WoW brought in even more recruits who soon made their mark. Recent recruits of note include Kraftwerk, previously of XENO, who has shown himself to be a man among men and decide to join up with us.
TLSC now stands as a firm gaming league - yet it has become so much more. TLSC is like a family. We have our fights and have a right bitch about it yet we have our moments when we really rally for each other. We have even had our own intarweb love affair with Polaris and Nebula who are all loved up!! We have survived all the bile and invective hurled at us over different forums and sites and still come through.
With over 300 registered members on our boards we have grown very big in a very short space of time and our forums are constantly alive with fun, humour, serious debate and, from time to time, a little bit of hating.
New games will see us grow and prosper as a group and our friendships will alst a long, long time.

Well this just took 30 minutes to write. Enjoy. Here is the history of TLSC from a PSA-centric perspective, from when I began in HW2 to now.
It began in HW2. I joined PSA, where i met Apocalypse. We soon became friends, and eventually came up against a player by the name of Magus. We recognized his skill, and recruited him. Soon we noticed another player named Solution 7, who we also recruited. Now I didn't play much on gamespy, and looked down on those who did as gamespy noobs. I had heard of tlsc, but didn't really pay any attention to them, as they had a limited presense on the ladder, and as I was the top ladder player, I didn't even notice you unless you beat me.
However, on one fateful day, I was to square off on Sarums against MVB. Me and him were both on one side of the map, and we immediately began fighting eachother while our partners also dueled. Now, MVB had heard of me of course, but considered me an arrogant asshole. And I considered him a noob. However, after that fateful game, where we fought blow-for-blow for at least 15 minutes, neither of us winning, stalemated, we gained newfound respect for eachother. After a later game in which we were on the same team, and MVB and I decimated our opponents, I decided to apply to tlsc.
TLSC was so fun because of their lively forums, great active members, and relaxed atmosphere. PSA was the opposite, our forums were not very active, and while our members were overall more skilled than TLSCs, we had fewer, and they often played in different timezones. With TLSC, you could always find a member on to play with. I became more and more loyal to TLSC and less and less to PSA, especially as I was passed over as a squad leader for Apoc (I've always suspected that they feared I would take over in a position of power... which comically Armageddon has basically done... but more on that later). Another reason I was becoming more TLSC and less PSA was due to the fact that TLSC had its first ever expansion division in CoD, which I was co-leader of with the great zona_nukka.
Soon MLH would start, which would change the face of HW2 as we know it. MLH, or Major League Homeworld2, was to be a inter-tlsc league in which teams broken down by timezone would fight eachother during a "season," eventually crowning one team champion. Basic ladder stuff right? Well what made MLH so appealing was that all player stats would be kept track of, and eventually there would be an allstar game with the best players from each team.
I wanted in on this, as it sounded like great fun. And I wanted to get all of my m8s in PSA in on it too, so I set up a meeting between MVB and PSA's "leadership." However, PSA foolishly thought that if they were to join MLH, they would be assimilated by TLSC, and would no longer be a seperate organization, and refused the generous offer. Not only that, they put up an ultimatum, one that would be seen many other times in the history of HW2: No member of PSA could also be in TLSC. However, their ultimatum backfired, as I resigned from PSA, bringing with me my good friend Apoc, as well as Magus, who had joined TLSC to play MLH a week before. Once I was gone, I began to actively court members of PSA who I had personally recruited to get them to join TLSC. Solution7 was one of those, however he soon changed his name to Blacksand. Laserflip, who I had recrutied to PSA but had left after some problems, also eventually was recruited to TLSC. I also tried to get my new recruit Armageddon to come, but he declined, and eventually took over pseudo-leadership of the weakened, stagnant PSA.
This exodus from PSA effectively destroyed them as a clan. Soon other skilled members began quitting, notably TroublePSA and vectorprimePSA (now gunmetalXeno and vectorchiken respectively). This was the first of many inter-HW2 problems with clans that TLSC would have. Soon Chiken, which counted as members Angel, Drunk, BlueViper, and Blazz, spurred on by FC's anti-TLSC crusade, banned dual membership. All 4 of those members quit chiken (I had only been there like 2 weeks) for TLSC.
MLH was now in full swing, and it was the most fun anyone had ever had in HW2. The inaugural game, between Gemini8th/Drunk playing for ENA and Ummon/Eziekielh playing for EUR, went down as one of the greatest HW2 games ever. MLH raged for many months, but eventually collapsed due to problems. Soon there was an exodus from HW2, with some players going to eve, others to some FPS, some to the new ground control 2 demo.
I began playing the Ground Control 2 demo with MVB, Magus, Apoc, laser, and several others. MVB hated it and soon quit. However, I placed 6th (stupid cheaters beat me... )in a demo tourny and won a free copy of the game. I quickly established myself as a top NA player, and soon laserflip and apoc got the game as well. Playing with a guy I met during the demo, the 3 of us quickly got a reputation, and through my patented system of arrogance, insults, and brilliant diplomacy, I had soon recruited the top GC2 players at the time. These included Slavemaster (ToxicGene), Vicath, Smoken, FuriousX, and Hobo. We were so feared that we were forced to make smurf names just to get top players to play us. The only organization that was as skilled as TLSC was AiTd, with whom numerous flame wars occured. Eventually both groups gained massive respect for eachother, specifically caused by the teaming up of AiTd-Patric with Slavemaster and myself, which united our 2 organizations. Soon I extended an offer to AiTd to join TLSC, which they accepted.
The second wave of recruiting in GC2 began with my inactiveness in GC2 due to my playing the DoW beta. Laserflip became acting CO, and while I played from time to time, he was in charge. Many of the original GC2 tlsc members had moved on from gc2, as a patch had completely changed the way the game was played. Laser soon recruited a top player, /<yle, and from there they began to recruit many of the remaining skilled players, including (but not limited to) Uruk-Hai, Loved/Hated, and Polarbear who were old adversarys of Slave/Drunk. Soon kyle left for the promised land of eve, and the division has stagnated, without a leader, though still with as many skilled players.
While the GC2 division was raging strong, so was the brand new UT2k4 division, started by fellow ex-PSA Apoc. Soon an influx of new blood entered TLSC, as recruits from GC2 and UT2K4 began to mingle with the older HW2 members. UT2k4 gained lots of great new recruits, and soon several of these new recruits became officers after proving themselves worthy. Apoc soon moved on to start several other FPS divisions.
But what of HW2? The game that brought about all of TLSC's power? TLSC maintained a presense there, and new CO, ex-PSA Blacksand, continued to play it along with some other TLSC. Many of these HW2 TLSCers were ones who didnt post/read the forums, and it seemed as though TLSC was gone from HW2. However, soon came a 2nd renaissance, with the recruitment of several new members in recent months, and the start of the HPL, a multi-clan tourny league.
And that brings us to today. TLSC is spread out over many games, and this is a problem. Many hoped that DoW was to be the game that reunited us. That hope was crushed when DoW sucked. What game will prove to be the messiah for TLSC?
