Leaping creatures gain a Fast Charge of 12", though they do not become Beasts. A creature with Leaping may make its full attacks when within 3" of a friendly model in base contact rather than the usual 2".

This was pointed out on Dakka...
When rolling for difficult terrain, a unit with Leaping should roll 3d6 and pick the highest. Not 2d6(highest)*2.

Anyone else ever play this way? This comes as a surprise to me. RAI vs RAW...

For their fast charge, it's 3d6x2, if it's through cover.

Regular difficult terrain moves 3d6

That's how I read it

I never take leaping nids though ... hormagaunts suck.

The reasoning is that even though they have a Fast Charge... they are still Infantry.
The rule you are quoting is for Beasts. I've never played it the way Dakka is suggesting but it seems that since there is no such thing as Fast Charge, while logically it makes sense to do 3d6*2... they are, in fact, limited to 3d6.

It's sort of irrelevant.

Leaping warriors are antiquated "bad" units, that struggle to make their points back or realistically survive.

Leaping rippers are ... well ... awful

Hormagaunts have leaping, but are also beasts, so it doesn't matter.
Raveners are beasts, not leaping.

So it's fine and all, but the main unit that uses leaping in the codex - Hormagaunts - are beasts ALSO.

It strikes me as rules lawyering for the sake of it ... like trying to rules lawyer something for biovores ... no idea if anyone does, b/c biovores are a worthless selection.

Hehe Heaven forbid you take something not "optimal". :D
I know you don't take em... and I only play a tyranid player once every so often who does.

It just really surprised me that was the RAW. Another instance of 5th making wargear almost obsolete, in this case it makes it only half-work.

It only doesn't work in the case of terrain ... and only affects 2/3 the models that can use it, so it's more like ... 40% not work, 60% work

When it comes to Nids, I've extensively used every unit and unit equipment variation in that codex ... hence it's not that I refuse to take suboptimal things, only that I've played w/ all of them, so am aware of the ones that are outright bad :)
