Are they a viable army in 5th edition? Has the new Marine codex made their codex pointless?

They motherfuckin' suck.

I can't put it more clearly. If I wrote an entire dissertation on them, that would be the thesis. The body would consist of large blocks of text reading like this:

HAHAHAHA EVERYTHING IN THEIR CODEX IS SO STUPID AND COSTS SO MUCH AND THEY'RE JUST MARINES AND OMG LOSING TO THEM WOULD BE LIKE LETTING YOURSELF GET CHEWED TO DEATH BY RABID FIELD MICE.

So.... what are you trying to say?

I'm trying to say they're a great army and you'll advance your interest in 40k by playing them. In fact, doing so will assuredly mean you'll win lots of games, have tons of fun, never be mocked by your compatriots and be the biggest 40k fanboy after a week ever.

Sweet! I think I will give them a try!

btw...have you considered therapy? ;P

Could you win with them Mike?

In all seriousness, the reason I ask is the Ravenwing and the Deathwing. I am very aware of the fact that they are more expensive. However by taking Belial as well as Sammael, you could have all bike /terminator units that are scoring. The other thing I was wondering about was the ravenwing scoring units. Since on Choice can split into 4 units, 2 sets of 3 bikes, one attack bike, and one landspeeder, do they all count as scoring units when choice is taken as a troop choice due to having Sammael on the board?

The Landspeeder doesn't, b/c only Infantry units count as scoring. Bikes and Jump are still Infantry (Bike Infantry, Jump Infantry), but Vehicles aren't.

The issue you'll run into is that against any army with a high volume of fire, you'll lose horribly no matter what you do, b/c you'll fail some armor saves here and there, and every failed save will cost you like forty points.

Marilius, anyone who has played with me knows that I am "good" at 40k, very good even ... and I can draw a lot out of a list. So, sure, I could win with Dark Angels, *but* against an equivalent player with an equivalently well designed list from almost any other Codex, I would be relying heavily on luck to win ever.
