Hey there, quick introduction: I'm Andrew or Littleton and I'm a pretty die hard Tau player (Im the guy with the blue/gold tau "soon to retire army" and the purple/khaki tau "new revamped army")

So I was curious about a few things regarding the way the league is going to work:

1) Do we only get 1 list to use for the duration of the season? And if not, how often can we change it?

2)Pairings, Time Frame to play the game, and location(s) we can play the game at.

3) Army/player standards (Painted Armies?/Proxying Stuff/Age Requirements/etc.)

4) Start Date

I play at most GW stores in the NOVA area (Springfield, Sugarland, starting to at Fair Oaks) as well as the Game Parlor in Chantilly. I know quite a few people that would be interested in signing up for the league and those are some questions that I know they, and myself, would like to know.

thanks in advance!

A - Thanks for your interest, Littleton ... glad you're curious, and also glad you know a few people who might also be interested.

B - Your questions

1) You can change your list with 5 days' notice prior to the beginning of a new month and release of new scheduled matches. The point, in general, is to prevent "list tweaking." You'll never be able to make a list BASED on your three scheduled matches, but you'll always be able to change your list each month (once / month).

2) Scheduled matches, wherever possible, will be organized based on locality, strength of schedule, and similar record. Initial pairings will probably be based only on locality / preferred gaming store. You can play your three scheduled opponents at ANY TIME during the month, and it's up to you to set up the matches. There are no "fixed" times you MUST come in ... you get the entire month to set up 3 games, with the players' contact info and the forums to set them up with.

3) There are no age requirements, but some basic maturity is required. We hope only to exclude the "extremes," those people either too young to actively participate / reasonably participate, or too unpleasant to coexist peacefully. Painted armies are nice, and can earn you rewards in tourney play. Proxying, if done, needs to simply be clear enough that your opponent can tell what's what without asking more than once or twice. More to the point, make sure your proxies are mostly arranged around weapons and similar models where possible ... try to avoid those halflings that are actually greater demons, if you catch my meaning.

4) May 1 is the start of the first month. Keep a couple things in mind - you can start later (if you have friends who wouldn't be ready May 1), b/c seedings in the league are based on averages/ratios, not net wins/losses; also, as mentioned above, you'll have the entire month to schedule your three required matches.

As an aside, you can play ANY number of league matches you'd like, against other league players if you run into them (which we think will be pretty likely given interest expressed so far). You're simply going to have three "required" matches. All league matches will influence your overall seeding. Scheduled matches will act as tiebreakers and emphasis matches for purposes of tourney seeding (plus, of course, not participating in them can earn you a loss, whereas non-scheduled matches are purely optional).

Hope that info helps, and keep the q's running if you have others.

Thanks Mike!

That helps out a lot with clarifying things. I do have one more question now though,

For the spontaneous "unofficial league match ups" that arise, I would assume we would use whatever list we currently have up as our official 2k points list for the month.

however

If both player's agree to it, would they be able to create/play with a different 2k points list on the spot as long as they end up posting whatever list they changed theirs to for the match up?

I can only think of doing this when you are tweaking a new list for the upcoming month and if you want to test it out (If you are like me, unless there is something at stake, I just like to screw around with tactics or be really lax in games. I always play to have fun though :) )

It's good to always play to have fun, and you certainly don't have to play an official league match if you want to test out your next build ... just don't count that one as a league match for reporting purposes.

Since all the matches are close to the same value in terms of your win/loss ratio and other stats, for seeding purposes (tourneys will be seeded based on league rank), we can't extend that I don't think. You'll officially be using your 2k list for that month. Doesn't mean you can't have a non-league match to figure out new tweaks, of course.

Thanks for all the questions - lookin' forward to havin' you in the league for sure.
