Hello!

My name is Shawn and I'm a 27 year old graduate student from Boston, now living in a small town in southern New Hampshire. I've been playing WoW for a while now, with about 135 days played time on my main, Ralwick, and other high level characters on the same account (warlock and priest). I may as well get this over with now... my mage is a Gnome! I'm a huge fan of the game, the community and the content. I started playing shortly before TBC was released and have been quite committed to it ever since. I've always enjoyed working together with other people to accomplish something that cannot be done alone... which brings me to the most important statement I'd like to make in my application: I am looking for a guild that recognizes and values the contributions that its guild members make. Nothing worth accomplishing in this game can be accomplished alone, and I feel that too often players forget that. Every one receives help along the way to get where they are. I've got no attitude and no sense of entitlement; I'm just here to raid and to have a good time.

I am available to raid on most nights after 7:00PM EST. I am comfortable and familiar with a DKP system. I am seeking a guild that is both stable (which HoTC clearly is) and professional (e.g. does not fill guild chat with "leet speak" about how "terribad" other guilds on the server are). I have cleared all current content in WOTLK several times with the exception being Sarth 3D.

My previous guild (Clarity) has recently downed Sarth 3D. I respect the people in that guild very much, but I had disagreements with a few things. This is only for the purpose of explaining why I am no longer with Clarity and it is in no way an attempt to speak poorly about anyone. The first was the issue of leadership. The GM and her co-GMs (her boyfriend and their friend) clearly had their favorites and would fill raids based mostly on who they liked the most. It just wasn't a good situation for me. They would expect others to do things such as donate to the guild web site so banners could be removed, but did not do so themselves. I believe in leading by example. They were not gracious about people leaving the guild, regardless of whether or not it is on good terms. Instead of motivating people to want to down a boss, they would yell and swear over Vent, joke about disbanding the guild because of poor players and make comments such as, "Come on, guys, this isn't 'XYZ' guild." Each wipe on Sarth 3D, caused by either a fissure or a flame tsunami, would result in the offending member having to pay 200g per incident to the guild bank, the same guild bank that they were generally not allowed to use. Needless to say, I am seeking a guild that is very different in terms of its leadership, raid style and maturity.

I am very good at playing my class. My mage is my main character on my account and I am comfortable playing him in both PVE and PVP environments and in any different spec. I am currently raiding 25-man content as FFB spec (52 Fire / 19 Frost) and am consistently in the top of the raid in terms of DPS and overall damage done. Of course, there's a lot more to being a good raider than what Recount shows. Smart DPS counts for more. Smart DPS includes maximizing damage output while not pulling aggro, making sure that all raid members have any and all available buffs that I can provide, actively listening throughout the raid, following instructions when they are provided and, of course, handing out free strudels. I always show up to any raid with the appropriate flask (Frost Wyrm), food (Firecracker Salmon and Fish Feast), scrolls, etc., and typically enough for up to 10 hours of back-to-back raiding time (I never run out). I'm also on a lot during the day, either farming or looking for heroics for badges, so I'm not just a part-time player... I like everything about this game!

Here is a link to my WoW Armory profile for your convenience: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dalaran&n=Ralwick.

I am maxed (450) in both Inscription and Enchanting and have every available WOTLK enchant. I was previously a tailor but dropped it to pick up Inscription, primarily for the really nice shoulder enchant. I am committed to getting the most utility out of my character, and that includes switching and power-leveling new professions as certain aspects become more desirable to my mage and to lend to progression.

I have Vent and a working mic. I'm not shy and I have no problem speaking and interacting with others over Vent. I've also got adequate computer equipment and a high speed Internet connection--no problems with lag or low FPS for me. I'm a polite individual and treat others as I'd like them to treat me... the Golden Rule that so many people seem to have abandoned in this game.

I understand that you probably aren't seeking active recruits at this time, but I do consider myself to be an exceptional player, and I would love the chance to attend a raid with all of you. I am already saved to all heroic raids this week except for EOE, but I would be willing to try that or wait until next week's unlock period. I'm a pretty flexible player!

I sincerely appreciate your consideration of my application and hope to hear from an officer soon. Please feel free to contact me via the web site or an in-game tell to discuss my application or to ask me any questions that you may have.

Thank you,
Shawn (Ralwick)

Ralwick, your application is well-written and informative.

Unfortunately, we are certainly not recruiting right now for active raiders. That doesn't mean we don't have the desire to give quality applicants a fighting chance to be part of our family, but it does mean that your odds of becoming a raiding mage in HotC any time soon are very long.

That being said, if you're committed to the process, a place can always open up (at least starting as FnF) for the right person with the right persistence.

Even for spots we have open, when we have need, our application process can take some time. It's pursuit is in the hand of the applicant - we will not make excessive efforts to contact you, draw you into runs, etc. We are this way on purpose - we want Type A "types" who are able to work their way into the guild through mature, but persistent pestering of the right people on a regular basis.

Plus, the longer you take, more often the more likely you are to craft friendships and relationships with regular members, making your transition into the guild a relatively smooth one.

If you aren't intimidated or turned off yet, contact me in-game (Mikevbrandt), as well as the mage officer Theroc. Feel free to chat up other mages like V.ishap, P.andoria, Cammy or Argonos. Feel free to chat up any members you can find trolling /hotchat in-game. Feel free to chat during the average M-F on our forum's Shoutbox, where many of our at-work members troll daily.

Welcome to the application process of HotC, it's a raid boss in and of itself.

Thank you for the detail and quality of your application's writing ... it is the only reason, given our very full nature, that I replied!

Good luck,
- Mikevbrandt, GM, HotC

Hello,

Just an update as I haven't posted anything here for a while. I've actually decided to go with a different raiding guild on the server that seems to have a good balance of nice people and good progression. Y'all seem like an awesome bunch, but the more thought I put into it, I realized I don't want to join a guild if I won't be able to play the game. That being said, I respectfully withdraw my application for guild membership. I wish everyone the best of luck as you continue on into Ulduar and beyond!
