It wasn't resolved before the move, so, if anyone has any ideas, please help :(
Okay, I recently defragged. Did that help? Hell no.

Hmm...you have the weirdest case I have ever seen. The only thing that's in my mind that could possibly be the problem now is a bad sector in your hard drive. But that's unlikely since most installers just skips the bad sectors in your hard drive.
Have you tried reformatting the whole drive. If that doesnt help then I dont know what else to say.

I think thats the next step Dark, reformat the drive and wipe out whatever this problem is? .............
Do you have service pack 2 for xp? i've heard that can cause problems for UT but i can't remember what?

Reformat? For one single game? Fuck that.
There is one thing: I don't know what sound card I have, so I can't install their drivers.
If I could work that out... I think it's a C-Media wave device, or something...
But reformat? For one single game, I lose everything? That's a little extreme, no?
Maybe the next patch will do something...

What!? You have C-media audio? Then why are you installing Nvidia Nforce2 drivers. The tech support guy that told you to install the Nforce drivers is a dolt. That may have been your problem after all. You're installing the wrong drivers for your devices. You have a VIA chip not an Nvidia Nforce.
Tell me what motherboard you have and I'll give you the appropriate drivers.

In reply to what Apoc is talking about(the service pack 2 problems), it only affected Single player campaign. And it was only minor. But patch 3323 fixed that so its not the problem.

I have an nForce2 motherboard. Look, do you want me to post my DXDiag?

Please post it so we could figure out your system specs.
Better yet use this (http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/13/5/13-5-4.shtml) as your diagnostic tool.

thats funny your : ) showed up as :)
But thats beside the point. :dur:
Well you do seem to have an Nforce2 chipset. So you're good on your drivers. And by the way, you dont have a C-media Audio Codec(It says so on the multimedia part of your diagnostic).
Well now that we've tried everything and since you dont want to reformat why not try uninstalling SP2.
Im going to post a new tech guide about how to uninstall SP2. I'll post the link later.

im done with the tech guide. Here's the link:http://www.tlsconline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189
Im not sure if it would help your case though cause as I said before I have not encountered anything like that of what you're having. Sorry I cant do much more :(

Of course I'll still be hanging on your case though. I might learn something if you fix it.
And those who might know something that could help. Please post.

Could be a faulty memory stick... or faulty HDD.
Have you tried other games (percificatlly use games that use the Direct X engine. So Homeworld and DOW are no good, they use OpenGL). If the other games crash, its the pc, not UT.
Also, have you tried UT in Safemode? Have you tried UT in the minimum settings? What settings is UT on now? Do you have any special features on? (Such as vioce, text to speech or autoloading skins?)

I doubt its a faulty memory stick and/or harddrive. The bios would've reacted if he did have a faulty memory stick and/or harddrive.
I guess he could try playing in safe mode and change his settings. But with that kind of system specs he should be able to run everything smoothly at max all.

I've played in Safe Mode. No improvement. In fact, that was one of the first thibgs I tried.

Thats not the case if its a "faulty" HDD/ram. Only if its a "failed" HDD/ram ;) .
It could also be overheating, causing problems... But they are all possible answers to a problem. You could try another PC/IT tech help website...

Wait, Halo crashed too. That's a DX game as well.
I have 9c, which hasn't helped.
Patch 3339 hasn't helped either.

FFS DoW crashed just now too >:(
Now none (fecking NONE) of the games I play work except for Insaniquarium, and that's hardly the same calibur of UT :furious:.
