I got a 4GB miniSD chip in it... I'm watching movies, playing old DOS Games on it (Yes dos programs with a little help do work on it), and of course listening to mp3s...

This thing bends the iPhone over and rapes it prison style... not as pretty perhaps and not as easy to use. But far more useful.

Work forced me to have a Blackberry. I'm already attached at the hip to my cell phone. NO MORE TINY ASS CRAPTASTICSTUFF.

It's the coolest thing eveh... I'm listening to music on it... system pauses my music when a call comes in and starts it again when the call finishes... it beeps at me when I have an appointment which syncs with Outlook (which only only use for it's calender because TB is better... period.)

Good stuff Karma. I've had an XDA IIi for over a year now. Never looked back. It does everything that previously 3 things had to do in my pocket - phone, mp3, diary etc. And yeh, the way it pauses the mp3 you're listening to when a call is incoming is a very nice touch.

It's really a shame our cellphone networks suck so badly. A simple (ha!) upgrade would give us unlimited voice/text 24/7 for $20/mo. Internet would also be lowered in price/kb. Eh... I have a crappy PDA but I haven't found reason enough to use it or learn grafiti. pft.

Mine has built in wifi which just means that I have to stop by nearly any business and I get free Internet through their network.

And mine has a fold out keyboard so if I need to do typing I can thumb type pretty quickly... I'd say about 30 to 35 words a minute... which isn't bad with thumbs...

Does look pretty nifty. Whats the power supply like? In hours?

If it had a bigger HD I would be really tempted.

well, it has a 4GB miniSD card... which means I can store about 16 feature length movies on it if I scale them down to the the device's screen resolution.

As to bat life, it's about the same as a laptop... I get about 4 hours on it if I watch movies and play games the whole time... or a couple days if I just use it as a phone... if I just listen to mp3's it lasts about 6 to 8 hours...

Anyone ever play the lucasarts adventure games back in the day? It can play all of them. I played Full throttle on it a few days ago. it of course also has a bunch of emulators for gameboy, nintendo, supernintendo, etc for it...

Main memory IS very limited. But you only use that for core programs that can't be stored on the memory card... or if you want the program to load a lot faster. Main memory is significantly faster then card memory. You don't notice if your files are on the card but it is noticeable if the program is on the card too. So I have most of the programs I use a lot in main memory which I believe is about 32 MB and the remainder is in the 4GB chip. It's important to note that most programs for this device are significantly less then 1MB in size. The only exception is things like Java (which might be 12 MB) or my pocket dos emulator which is something like 5 or 6 MBs.

In any event I only have about 10 programs in main memory beyond what the standard install is... Something to note with these devices is that you cannot remove Windows Mobile from them. You can do a hard reset which sets everything back to factory defaults but you can't for example install WM6 on a WM5 device... nor for that matter install linux or something on it. I've only had to hard reset it once and that was when I was still really playing with it... I changed some settings in and then forgot what I did... so it was totally my fault.

Recently, I had to get new headphones for it because the ones that come with it are extremely cheap. They had that cheap plastic coating the wires that gets stiff after being exposed to air for more then a month... which meant the wire was starting to crack... now THAT is CHEAP! Anyway, I bought 30 dollar pair of bodyglove earbuds for it... they seem to be the best ones for this type of device. They're a little strange in that the wires are actually insulated by nylon cloth instead of plastic... which is just weird... but they work well, look nice, and I have nothing to complain about.

The one thing this device doesn't have which bothers me... and I'm not 100 percent sure on this... just 95 percent sure... is that it doesn't support FAT32 for memory cards. Which means 4GB is the largest sized card I can put into this device. there are 8GB and 16GB minisd cards out there or soon to be out there. But they'll rely on Fat32. :(

the other thing which I wish it had was the ability to connect other devices to it via it's USB port... such usb keys, mice, etc. You can connect just about anything to it via blue tooth... including mice and speakers and keyboards etc... but... I want to plug a USB hub into it and then just plug things into it.

that is coming...

the phone has a built in 420 MHz processor but it's more efficient then you'd think... it feels like it's about as fast as a 600 to 800 Mhz computer... just basing that on how responsive it is when doing different tasks as compared to other computers.

So, I've got a new RTS game for my PPC.... it's pretty good considering how small the screen is...

You use the stylus like a mouse. It's basically a Command and conquer rip off for the pocket pc. The unit types and handling are very similar... as well as the graphic which are about the same as the original command and conquer.

I love my pocket pc... It's awesome.
