Heh, I work for a state government agency. It would be "wrong" of us to get a day off for Good Friday or Easter. Seperation of church and state and all that. I better be careful making comments about it though. I may summon Karmashock.... :P
I'll get the notes form last night's meeting summarized and up in the member forums ASAP. Lots of stuff on my plate today, so interested parties please be patient. It's been nearly 20 years since I took any "objective" notes at a meeting. Getting everything presentable won't be quick.

Good Friday is the Friday before Easter or Pascha. It commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus at Calvary. This year, it is on April 6, 2007.
Good Friday is a holy day observed by most Christian religions. Special prayer services are often held on this day with readings from the Gospel giving accounts of the events leading up to the crucifixion. Mainstream Christian churches view Christ's crucifixion as a voluntary and vicarious act, and one by which, along with resurrection on the third day, death itself was conquered.
It is likely that the name "Good Friday" came from the earlier English name, "Godes Friday," meaning "God's Friday." In much the same way as "God be with ye" was shortened to "goodbye," so did "Godes Friday" become "Good Friday."
The Dutch name Goede Vrijdag translates as "Good Friday". Other languages refer to this day in different ways.
In the Holy Land, Good Friday is known as "Big Friday." In Germany it is "Karfreitag", an Old German word meaning "Friday of lamentation", although this meaning is not obvious to speakers of modern German. In Armenia it is called "High Friday (Ավագ Ուրբաթ)". In Russia it is called "Passion Friday" (Strastnaja Pjatnitsa).
Great Friday: Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and in the Eastern Orthodox Church generally
Holy Friday: Latin America, Spain (Viernes Santo), France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil (Sexta-Feira Santa), Philippines (Mahal na Araw or Biyernes Santo), Vietnam (Thứ sáu Tuần Thánh), Japan(聖金曜日)
Long Friday: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland
Jesus' Crucifixion Day: China (耶稣受难日)
A Divine Liturgy is never celebrated on Good Friday (which they call "Holy and Great Friday"), except when it coincides with the feast of the Annunciation. Instead of the Divine Liturgy, the Eastern Orthodox and Greek-Catholics meet up to three times during the day for prayer: in the forenoon, to pray the Royal Hours appointed for that day; in the afternoon, around the 3 p.m. (the time of day that the Bible gives for the death of Christ), the Vespers of Holy Friday; and in the evening, the Matins of Holy Saturday.
The congregants relive the events of the day through public reading of the Psalms and Gospels, and singing hymns about Christ's death. Visual imagery and symbolism is also often used: in the morning, a large cross is moved to the front or center of the nave (where the congregation gathers), and a two-dimensional painted body of Christ, or corpus, is placed on it. During the afternoon prayers it is removed from the cross and taken to the altar in the sanctuary, and an epitaphios is brought down to a low table in the nave representing the tomb; it is often decorated with an abundance of flowers. The epitaphion itself represents the body of Jesus wrapped in a burial shroud, and is a roughly full-size cloth icon of the body of Christ. During the evening prayers, the shroud is part of a procession outside the church, and is then returned to the tomb.
The noble Joseph, when he had taken down Thy most pure Body from the tree, wrapped it in fine linen, and anointed it with spices, and placed it in a new tomb.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
The angel came to the myrrh-bearing women at the tomb and said:
Myrrh is fitting for the dead, but Christ has shown Himself a stranger to corruption.
Adult Orthodox Christians are supposed to abstain from all food and drink the entire day to the extent that their health permits.
Roman Catholic Christians treat Good Friday as a fast day, which is defined as only having one large meal (but still smaller than a regular meal) and two small ones not equaling the large one. In the United States, it is not a day of abstention from work however; people work until shortly before the beginning of the afternoon liturgy. In Latin America, all Catholics have work abstention on Good Friday (as well as Holy Thursday, the day of the last supper).
The Catholic Good Friday in the Roman Rite afternoon liturgy - held around 3 p.m., the time Christ is said in the bible to have died, in those countries where Good Friday is a public holiday - involves a series of readings and meditations, as well as the (sung) reading of the Passion account from the Gospel of John which is often read dramatically, with the priest, one or more readers, and the congregation all taking part. In the traditional Latin liturgy, the Passion is read by the priest facing the altar, with three deacons chanting in the sanctuary facing the people. Unlike Roman Catholic services on other days, the Good Friday liturgy is not a Mass as it lacks the consecration, the central element to the Mass, and in fact, celebration of Catholic Mass on Good Friday is forbidden; unlike the Eastern Churches, the feast of the Annunciation is moved to the week after Easter if it should fall on Good Friday. Eucharist consecrated the night before (Holy Thursday) may be distributed (otherwise, it is only available as viaticum for the dying). The violet draping is removed from a Crucifix (not required to be the same one which is on or near the altar at other times of the year) with the people given an opportunity to venerate it. The services also include a long series of formal intercessions. The solemnity and somberness of the occasion has led to a phenomenon whereby in the course of history the liturgical provisions have a tendency to persist without substantial modification, even over the centuries (Anton Baumstark). In some countries, such as Malta, Italy, Philippines and Spain, processions with statues representing the Passion of Christ are held.
In Polish culture a tableau of Christ's Tomb is unveiled in the sanctuary. Many of the faithful spend long hours into the night grieving at the Tomb, where it is customary to kiss the wounds on the Lord's body. A life-size figure of Christ lying in His tomb is widely visited by the faithful, especially on Holy Saturday. The tableaux may include flowers, candles, figures of angels standing watch, the three crosses atop Mt. Calvary and much more. Each parish strives to come up with the most artistically and religiously evocative arrangement in which the Blessed Sacrament, draped in a filmy veil, is prominently displayed.
Most importantly:
There is no horse racing on Good Friday in the UK.

Mr. Secretary I expect faster service than this!
Yes I have a late church service tonight (8 PM) to celebrate this good event. If am I still away when I get home, I may dust off Passion of the Christ just to give me a reminder of what may have happened.

I should be going to mass tonight, and I should have gone last night. I'm a subpar Catholic in terms of mass attendance and fornication. Everywhere else I'm just peachy.

Dammit Telva, I'm an econometrician not a secretary! :P It's one thing to drop one liners into a forum thread, but a totally different thing to compile a coherent post from chicken scratches.
Maunday Thursday services last night, multiple services Sunday, SHOULD be going to some services tonight, but I'm going to Karazhan instead. I fully expect to be punished for it. (by my wife, God's more forgiving)

He didn't leave out any details though did he?
I could have gone to Church last night, but it seems to me that they wanted a service to celebrate his last everything when in reality it wasn't his last anything except death of course.
I have a new sponsor in TW2007! Of course I got this one event after my last sponsor.

Tease. ;)
I sometimes would prefer NOT to be, but I am indeed an econometrician. Most of the time I wish I had gotten around to finishing my dissertation and stayed in the academic world. Unfortunately, I expect that my ABD is never turning into a PhD.

As a programming contractor for over 10 years, all holidays were regular workdays where full-time employees didn't show up. I would have conversations like this:
Manager: "Hey, are you taking next Thursday off?"
Me: "Why?"
Manager: "It's Christmas Day."
<pause>
Me: "Is anybody else working that day?"
Manager: "No. And the building will be locked. And they're shutting off the power."
Me: "OK. I guess I'll take Thursday off. See you on Friday."
Manager: "Ummm..."
And so on and so on and so on.

I wanted to make a comment about Hobazhan, just because I'm ridiculously pleased.
Last night, after a Attunemen, Moroes, Maiden, Opera, Curator, Aran, Chess, Prince kill on Wednesday, Hobazhan took on entirely new content on Thursday evening. We had seen Nightbane before, but we didn't really have any opportunity to work out a strategy. We walked in there and it took 3 attempts - on the third, it was done.
After Nightbane was down, we headed through the bookcase, down to Terestian Illhoof. We got stuck for the first hour or so on healing and imp management, but after about an hour, we had our first really great attempt - we wiped at 4%. After our 4% wipe, we had a streak of 3 or 4 attempts that didn't work out well - our pally imp tank kept getting the fire vulnerability buff stacked up on him and ended up eating the dirt a few times. Once we got the mechanics right (and a dampen magic up on Dack, which was insanely effective btw), we whipped out a no death massacre of Illhoof at around 10:40.
Two new bosses down. Next week, our goal is to kill Attunemen, Moroes, Maiden, Opera, Curator, Nightbane, Aran, Chess, Prince on night #1. This will leave us with a full night on Illhoof and Netherspite, the last boss we have to clear in Kara. When this is done, HotC will have two entirely separate groups with Kara clears finished (and two on the horizon).
Last night was very successful. And now, Hobazhan takes 4 days off.
