thank you... I was so annoyed with the various sites offering it that I was going to download it off the torrent network.
anyway, I've preordered this guy... wow... so many great RTS's are going to be out this year... Sins will be out some time this year as well... I think... man... this might be over saturation... I'm still figuring out SC... recently beat the campaign... now this is coming out... bah...
never mind... this isn't any better... it started out at roughly 150 KB/s... now it's down to 30... gah... 8 hours...

as I suspected, it errored out after downloading about 200MBs... this always happens with these massive game demos... I'll dl from a torrent site later... they need offer these files through FTP or something... http file transfers don't work well with large files... especially when they won't let you resume or finish a download.

I love having a mix of RTS games. Some days I want deep strategic depth, other days I want to watch space elves get massacred, and still others I want quick and satisfying action. CnC (act of war, lately) normally filled this role.
But this is a horrible CnC game. I would go into details, but it would take far less time to just say CnC: Generals is better, or that Act of War still does everything CnC does and more, only better.

I love C&C all of them. The demo's sweet, wish you could try out the new faction on it. Anyway glad to see my favorite part of C&C is back I hate RTS's with pop caps. I've always loved trying to make as man infantry I can and send a giant ball of guys at a enemy base.

Game seems alright. That APC+Zone trooper combo is almost invincible in large groups on Hard difficulty (finished hard mode in 16 mins and 23 seconds)

the game runs very nicely... on max graphics I'm getting around 78 FPS... it's MUCH faster then SC but I must admit that I was spoiled by the zooming features in SC... I'm kind of annoyed that CnC3 forces you to be so far zoomed in...
Here are my basic judgements of the game going on only the demo.
First, the engine seems like it isn't quiet as ambitious as it should have been which is I suspect why I get such a good frame rate on max settings.
Second, I love the CnC universe and found the units and set up to be really pretty good. It was everything a CnC game should be.
Third, the one major thing I have against this game is that there is nothing really "special" about the game design except for that it is a CnC game. I'm not seeing any new features of abilities that really strike me as very innovative.
Thus on the whole while I will definitely play the SP campaign of this game I think the game suffers from not having tried anything really new. Some of this is frankly the fault of the fans for bitching like little girls about CnC Generals which was really a fine game despite it's departure from the CnC universe. I think that might have caused them to play it safe... and as a result the game feels like they played it safe.

True but there is still a thrid faction thats yet to even be seen in this game. The innovative new creative shit might be on that faction. Not to say thats diffenatly the case but you never know. I'll definatly be playing this game some in the future and I still have HIGH hopes for the scrin.

the innovation can't be in just one faction. It has to be something that all players experience with they play the game.

Perhaps my thinking layed more in multiplayer online. When I was playing alot of C&C it was almost always online. A new faction with perhaps new unit types could lead to innovation. Everyone can enjoy the new faction if it's anything like the C&C of old there's no reason everyone couldn't be the scrin. Plus there could be innovation in that faction. Every faction has checks and balances you don't get stealth as GDI nor does Nod get a space command uplink. Each of those are not innovative because they were staples of each faction. Perhaps the draw for EA toward a new faction was to be able to bring innovation in without a drastic change to thier already sound "C&C universe".
So does it?
If your saying innovation in the game play is lacking. I ask what do you want? What was the last major innovation you saw in the RTS genre? TBH i've played WoW for the last 2 years the last RTS I was really into was LotR 1.
And for some reason I can't help but feel as though EA held somthing out of the demo but who knows

sigh... if only one faction have innovation... which at this point is highly speculative anyway and probably not the case... then it's still not worth much. Look, you don't want to be forced to play any specific faction to see the innovation. Each faction should have something innovative about them OR the whole game by design should be innovative.
So far I haven't seen it. This is not to say the game is bad, merely that it feels like generals with better units. Generals was actually a very good game but it's years old now and my standards for what I expect out of an RTS have risen since then. I'm not seeing anything in CnC3 that raises the bar.
Do you disagree? Where are they raising the bar? The only impressive thing in the game so far was the video cut scenes and that was only impressive because I recognized a few of them from tv shows and movies. But that just means they shelled out for real actors... which isn't new... but it's typically pretty cool.

The alien race looks horrible, imo.
Have you seen it's version of a superunit? It looks like a big flimsy stick walking on end, with tinier sticks shooting rainbow colored laser beams. Oh yeah sign me up for that race.
I think the problem they have is that they designed three races, with three distinct tiers. Tier 1, is the beginner tier, encompassing the GDI. Simple to play, straightforward, no innovation. Tier 2, intermediate, is NOD. Little harder, some unorthodox tactics, some innovation. Tier 3, "expert", is to be the new aliens. Supposed to be the hardest, with the most intricate tactics, and most innovation (I admit, using black holes as weapons sounds cool).
I read this off some developer interview and was pissed the second I read it. Any competitive players, and most casuals will drift towards the aliens eventually, simply because the others cannot hold a candle to them. Tournaments will be 90% aliens. Good times there.
The GDI have absolutely no special tricks up their sleeves. How will they compete at all against even the NOD, let alone the destined to be broken aliens? One of their defining characteristics is the Juggernaut heavy artillery, which as artillery has barely more range than a Mammoth battle tank (the sniper combo special is worthless). Makes perfect sense.

Yup the aliens will be over powered and over populated. As with any game thats the way it works. There will be patchs and the will almost undoubtly be an expansion. I personally think i'll try the Scrin to begin with. Once the intial glizt of the new race is over settle back into my diabolical Nod ways.

Tiberium sun sucked, survivor sucked, renegade sucked, generals was ok.
And the fastest person to beat a brutal AI in demo gets a free copy of the game or some shit.

Renegade is not really part of the C&C series, neither is survivor. I'm talking about the RTS one. Generals was, and Tiberium Sun was ok for when it came out.
