TRY TO BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE

1) We will see a war in the middle east between Israel vs Syria, lebanon, and Iran. WMDs MAY be used. Western Islamic nations like Saudi Arabia and Egypt stay out of the conflict.

2) Continued problems with an increasingly antagonistic Vladimir Putin and a reemerging Russia. Strengthening of the group opposing a "unilateral world" consisting of Russia and China as the major partners.

3) Major terrorist attack in EUROPE which will cause the Europeans who previously thumbed their noses at the US to beg for assistance and plead ignorance for their previous actions.

4) Major terrorist attack is tied somehow to Iran, possibly they supplied WMDs which were used in attack. MASSIVE European/American invasion of Iran, public assumes actual war will be over quick, as was Iraq. However, Iran uses WMD on attacking forces, mainly composed of American troops. US declares war on Iran.

5) Another [b]Major[/] natural disaster will occur, but with no where near the amount of casualties. I'm thinking earthquake in california, or maybe a major storm system hitting caribbean.

6) Elections in Iraq occur with few problems, and US troops finally go home near end of year. However, government is soon in chaos after assassination; US assistance is asked for one more

7) San Diego Chargers beat the Green Bay Packers in the superbowl

8) A major political scandal occurs. If it happens to the Republicans, it is swiftly sweeped under the table, while the GOP protests the "liberal media's" influence on politics. If it happens to the Dems, it will be blown out of proportions comparable to Whitewater/Blowjobgate.

9) I will force my best friend, returning to US in march from a 6 month tour in iraq, to drink until he has alcohol poisoning.... at least 6 times.

1). US economy will continue to improve and grow at a rate of about 3.4~3.8 percent annually. Concerns about the economy will not go away for political reasons, but people will become more comfortable.
2). Oil prices will drop as Iraq stabilizes but US oil gas prices will remain volatile for domestic reasons.
3). US and 'major' European powers will try to put the last 4 years of conflict behind them. There will be increased participation by French and German business and governments in Iraq. This will depend mostly on whether the area is stabilized.
4). US will continue to consolidate its global power base by making more additional alliances, bolstering powers that are sympathetic to it, and calling in old assumed favors. This is mostly an assessment of what the US actually has by the US.
5). The Chinese will continue to intimidate every other nation in East Asia from Australia to Vietnam... china to Pakistan.
6). More eastern European countries will be considered for membership in the EU as it expands its power umbrella east.
7). Russia will likely continue to centralize power for several years... I don't see this changing unless it falls apart... that's Russia.
8). The US television media will continue it's shift from left to right as they increasingly become aware of the people they've been ignoring for 30 years.
9). Socialist systems will continue their global death spiral as their overhead increases, their services decline, the money to fund them dries up, and the demands increase.
10). US military technology will continue its mechanization. Expect to hear people talking more about robotic recon units on land and less about them in the air.
11). The movies this summer will be 30 percent more visually stunning then last year... while being just about as unfulfilling.
12). My family will have a total of 5 babies as 4 of my cousins will be fathers/mothers this year... and I think one of them is likely to have twins.
13). My cat will get worms again... because apparently the mice he eats are infested with them... that's just what happens every year.

5. America will continue to ignore and play down the climate change and will not sign up to Kyoto protocol, seeing the oportunity to gain a competitive edge over signed up nations. The salinity of the gulf stream will continue to drop.

6. Attemps by the US government to shut down the UK stem cell bank will continue to fail, however; They will succeed in hindering stem cell research and delay potential new medicines. US will cease to persue this line when they have caught up with the UK.

7. EU/US relations will continue to strain as Franco/German Europe grows closer to China. (i would put real money on this btw! not just to disagree with KS)

8. The sun will set 365 times.

I then made a joke that two builders in my local pub were talking about what they earned, however they were locally adjusting their salary to incorporate the slightly higher fuel prices in that area of the country (or something), and you...completely missing my sarcasm, said that your point was proven.

The unfortunate thing is that you don't understand what has happened in the world. We're doing our best to hold the line almost all by ourselves. Europe hasn't been much help for a long time. You take your values as universal and that everything is a linear progression from barbarism to your ideal utopia. But it isn't that simple. There are competing ideals out there... and if we lose, none of our values have meaning.
