Well, back again I am. It's been a while, but our internet connection is marginally back up. Yey. Greetings from Souda Bay, Crete. Or is it Creete? Greece, in any case. Yes, our first port call has already come. A sign of better things, one would hope.

I've already been gone a month, and it's flying by quickly for me. This is a good thing. I miss all of you terribly, but that's to be expected. Spending a lot of time with Halo and Star Wars Battlefront, but I'm not fond of Star Wars. It's a decent effort, but the game seemed severely lacking to me. Then again, we don't have massive online battles around here. I should have bought a laptop, then at least I could have skirmished DoW out here. I was pleasantly surprised to find that a couple guys I know brought copies of HW2 out here, but after a couple games they invited me to not play against them anymore. Imagine that. Been playing a lot of Risk and chess also, which are both games I've enjoyed for many years. Nothing else terribly new to report, kudos on the new forums by the way. You'll be hearing from me again soon .. until then, catch ya on the flipside.

I'm not sure how much faster it loads, but if it does, you can read the forums easier.

The only downside is that you can't post/reply from there, but you can click the "view full version" at the top and it will take you directly to the thread you are viewing (so you dont have to go through the forum layers).

You guys don't seem to grasp the situation totally. Laptops abound out here, I just don't have one of my own. That being said, I spend the majority of my time either watching movies, or playing games in the shop. We have 4 XBoxes hooked to a router, three PS2's floating around, 5-6 laptops, and satelite TV .. that rarely works. Tons of movies floating around, and even more pr0n. Actually, a LOT of people on the ship don't have it as well as us .. but hey, as the saying goes. Choose your rate, choose your fate. We live like kings because we work our asses off when there's work to be done, and I personally don't believe in busywork for it's own sake. When there's nothing to do, do what you can. It's the only way to keep sane out here, y'know? I have 12 working hours to fill each day and I always knock out whatever work I do have as quickly as possible so I can goof off or go work out. I stay up a couple extra hours to do some college work, and then I sleep about 10 hours.

I'm not going to comment on the suckups or devotion comments, except to say that such people are almost universally despised in our community and never last long. Other areas of the navy perhaps are more accepting of such things, but not around my shop and my workers.

I know this sounds incredibly strange, but .. I have never played HW1 or Cata. Actually, HW2 was one of the first RTS games I played since the original Red Alert. I flirted with SC a bit, but never really got into it other than enjoying the obvious nods to the 40k universe, and the MANY easter eggs pointing to the movie Aliens.

oh really? wow...as far as strategic and tactical depth go, even being very old, homeworld has more going for it than hw2. it has more tactics, 10 million micros for every fighter/corvette unit, millions of formations, custom formation, and u can build multiple ships form the MS at once. it leaves tons of options, and the storyline would blow away homeworld 2. i HIGHLY reccomend it if you haven't played it dude. plus its like 10 bux now :D

Strangely enough, most of my muscle is in my legs and forearms. I don't have huge upper arms, but I do have an 18 inch neck, which makes me laugh except when I have to buy new shirts. If I want a button down loose enough to button for a tie, then I have to get a pretty big shirt, and then it looks like I'm swimming in it. And I'm not tacky enough to get the neck extender thingy.
I'm actually considering just getting custom shirts, but they cost a bundle soo.. I dunno.
Only weapon I carry with any regularity any more is a stun gun, too many people carry knives for show and pull them out at any little provocation with no intention of using them. That angers me. Meh, I'd rather just zap the guy and kick their teeth down their throat.

That reminds me of the one time I got into major trouble in the navy, I was on watch when I was still in school and it was after curfew when a guy I sort of knew, he lived down the hall, came in obviously drunk. Normally this would not be a problem, but it was after curfew so I had to tell him to post up in front of the LPO, and I would have avoided that except for the fact that he was watching the entire thing. The guy took offense, and ended up taking a swing at me after yelling.

Meh, no big deal I put him on the floor, and it should have been fine there except I lost my temper a bit and kicked the fuck in the head. Really, it was understandable to my perspective .. I just didn't want him to get up again. Buuuutttt they said I went too far and I got charged with assault. Later on, I find out if I hadn't kicked him while he was down, nothing would have happened to me. The other kid got charged with assault, disobeying direct orders for staying out past curfew and not complying with me, and drinking under age. He's no longer in the navy, hah.

Me, I did 14 days in restriction, lost a month's pay, and lost my stripes. That's the only thing that pissed me off, but hey .. y'know? I did my time, took the loss and worked my way back. I'd have an extra stripe right now if that hadn't happened, but it taught me a lot of humility.

I don't like to fight, and I never start them. But I've no problem with finishing one. Fighting fair as a concept is alien to me, because the point is to win. Back on point, my other favorite toy as a younger miscreant was a smiley, which in nothing more than a legnth of chain with 2-3 padlocks on the end. That will ruin your whole day, lemme tell you.
I also keep an axe handle in the car, next to my seat. That and my stungun are my two peacekeepers. I used to keep a click stick like the cops use, but I dented it on someone, so I got rid of it.

Advancement results came out, I didn't make it. I was pissed. I got VERY pissed when I saw I'd missed it by less than 2 points. That's okay, livable. Life moves on, my hand will heal. The toolbox won't, but hey.

It's Thanksgiving! So all of you give thanks to me for being away from everything that I hold dear so I can support the people you should be really thinking of .. the soldiers that are scraping sand out of their breakfasts every day. Forget politics or the reason they are there, the fact is that they are there and your personal views aren't going to change that. So instead, just take a moment to reflect on the situations they have to face every day and thank them for doing their job the best they can.

Me, I get air conditioning and decent food and movies and video games. These guys get suicide-bombed and spit on in the streets and shot at for a wakeup call. So keep them in your thoughts, if nothing else.

I've been in a terrible mood lately, and I don't really know why. A combination of things really. Mostly it's the lack of mail from the family this time out, or the sketchy internet, or .. I don't know. I do know I'm pissy for no good reason and that's no good.
