So I'm in Cenarion Hold mustering for AQ20 when my mouse batteries go dead and I have to go to the store. Then I can't get to the store because my girlfriend isn't back with the car yet. After I get batteries, 4 hours later, I could have logged back on because AQ20 was still going on till 12:30 am. But who does AQ for 6 hours? I just went out with friends. And that lead to craziness that it's too early in the morning to talk about.

So....

Last weekend I have family in. I scrounge thru my garage trying to find old photos and such in the dark, I unplug something to plug a light in.

Week later.

I go back in to my garage, and am overwhelmed by the smell of rotten meat. What I unplugged was my freezer. Yesterday I got to get some paint masks and rubber gloves and clean out the nasty rotten meat soup that was pooled in the bottom of my freezer. I had to run out a few times to keep from puking.

Doused everything in Clorox, the smell is still bad. It will probably take weeks and gallons of Clorox/Febreze to clean out. I can't remember any smell that was ever as disgusting.

"Blizzard is starting their round of Burning Crusade previews (I got word from VU Games that we might be receiving our key for the closed beta testing of BC), and the new surprising revelation from the company is that the raiding has been capped at 25 people. Yep, no more massive 40-man raids (thank ye, Lord!). While MC, BWL, AQ40 and Naxx will still remain 40-man raid dungeons, no new 40-man stuff will be released in the expansion. With the exception of Kharazan (which is designed for 10 players), the high-end stuff in The Burning Crusade will be designed for 25 players max."

You need to call up one of those Crime Scene Cleanup businesses. They have a special enzyme-based cleaner designed specifically for removal of biological nastiness. Maybe they'd sell you a bottle. Thanks for this info, MYTHBUSTERS!

The raid scene should definitely be an interesting thing to watch. Two questions pop in my mind:

How Did You Level to 60? Pure Grind? Quest Only? Rest Only? Take it as it came? Pure Instances?

How Do You Plan to Level to 70?

***

In one of the articles about the expansion they discussed that the level cap doesn't get raised to 70 unless you purchase the expansion. So, when the expansion comes out another question might be...how does blizzard want you to Level to 70?

On Cana, I blew off Uldaman, Maraudon and ST and just basically followed questlines but did a lot of solo grinding for Ore to keep my blacksmithing up.

On all my alts, I only played them on full rest. Only did gather/kill quests and basically never used a mount...killed everything from quest giver to the quest desitination, and then killed everything on the way back.

I will say this though, I don't know if I'll be in as big of a rush to get to 70 as I was to get to 60, but I'm definitely taking advantage of rest xp.

What does any of this have to do with 25-man raiding? 25-man raids significantly nerf XP. So, my point is...will people be more interested in raiding or getting to 70 for flying mounts?

I don't think they have announced any 25-man raids available until level 70, so raiding won't have much to do with the levelling process.

I'm guessing that the formula won't change much. The absolute fastest grind will be just pounding 5-mans slightly below your level (assuming you get a good group) or farming green mobs.

I'm not much of a power player. I assume I'll be taking longer than average to ding 70. Hopefully Illidan won't be dead before I get there. :)

Grinding mobs is by far the fastest way to level bar none. Its faster than questing and grinding instances.

I would guess that instances are a good source of exp too since its all elite mobs and the rewards are a bit better.

For my Paladin I suspect that ill be grinding the undead in the plaguelands as long as I can and then get some quests that require you to kill x number of y monster. Those are the best quests to use for leveling.

Sadly its booring as all heck to level up a Paladin...leveling my Warlock should be much more fun.

Except for one thing: Eleventy billion level 60-characters will be trying to do the exact same thing.

The two worst places to be on release day will be the starting zones for the new races and anywhere that a level 60 can quest/get experience.

I intend to level in Hellfire Citadel as much as possible, for the simple reason that no one to compete with = more fun.

I am of 2 minds about 25 man runs. I'm not sure if it's going to be really beneficial, or be the cause of some guild implosions. Haven't really made up my mind if I'll be in favor of such runs or not.

Most guilds were built around 40 man instances, that is, they have enough people to fill up slots (with some backup) for that. Either a guild is going to have to field multiple 25-man raids, or they'll have to choose their best 25 people, leaving the others behind - and that way lies dramatastic encounters.

The good things?

** There will be more slots to fill if a guild chooses to run concurrent raids...multiple raids within a guild would allow many more people to raid who often can get left behind due to the fact that most everyone chose to roll a nelf hunter when they started <laugh>.

** For those guilds who have members in multiple time zones, raiding times for certain groups can tailor better to the needs of the group. Example: a guild with several Aussies can create a raid on Aussie time and not have to stay up in the wee hours just to accomodate their US guildmates.

** It gives other members in a guild the opportunity to run raids on their own, valuable experience to be used elsewhere in game. This is good for guild leadership, so they know they can entrust a raid to someone else and thereby diminish some of the pressure they have for being there all the time.

** It also gives alts a chance to move forward and be viable in the guild. More opportunity to raid is more chance to get stuff!

The bad things?

** Multiple raid groups can create superior and inferior groups within a larger guild, thereby taking away the team atmosphere. Competition can be a great motivator, but within the same guild it can also be divisive. Some people may feel marginalized or lesser because they're not accepted / invited on the more advanced team, or the team with the guild officers, etc. This kind of thing can, under certain circumstances, promote favortism.

** It would be kind of difficult for some people on the "inferior" team, if that group ended up being the the one primarily used for alts, screening potential members, etc.

** It also can cause trouble when it comes to raid timers. If a Guild has 2 concurrent raids going on, say MondayRaid and ThursdayRaid, and 3 people from MondayRaid can't make it, you can't pick up others who are saved to ThursdayRaid if their timers aren't cooled down. I dunno if that makes sense.

*********************

If approached right, I think a guild could make the 25 man raid thing work, however, there's got to be a balance so that people aren't alienated, and it works for the group as a whole.

That's just my initial thoughts. Not married to any idea one way or the other, so if you flame me, I don't friggin' care.

Winsome
Aug 14, 2006, @ 03:49 PM
lol. Do we *have* to flame you? :)

I generally agree with most of what you said.

I'm definitely taking a "wait and see" attitude - I mean, the problem of multiple 25-man raid is not one we are likely to face until Spring. But I agree - there will be some interesting things to sort out.

I think my favorite part is the ability to maybe even schedule raids that fit my time slot a little better. PST RAIDS FTW!

My least favorite part is the fact that I am currently able to leech off of MVB's organizational skills and just show up for raids. WTF?!? I need to actually learn to RUN a raid? !!!111!!1 THANK FOR LETTUCE GNOMES BLIZ!

We may be at a point where we can field two 25 man teams per raid night.

I personally think that this is a anti-guild move and is quite retarded. The paradigm for the way guilds works is based on the 40 man raid concept and this will screw it all up. Yes we might have enough for 2 teams at a time but one team will alway be hurting because the lack of druid wil always be a problem. This will force the "B" team to take a less than optimal team to go raiding in these instances and in this guild if Mike is not raiding with you then you are on the "B" team. Balrognight might be a good leader but as last friday showed when Mike is not around people screw around and lose focus. Eventually I see either a bunch of people quitting the game or breaking off to start their own guilds because of this paradigm change.

What happens if you roll a Paladin? Shouldn't they get the same pally mount as the Human & Dwarf Pallies?

Warlocks on both faction have the same mounts.

I swore that my priest would be the last alt that i bought a mount for (then I rolled a Druid and just used Travel form until i couldn't take it any more).

Well im sure it will be like it usually is. As a Dwarf Paladin I could have gotten my ram mount if I wanted to pay for it..or I could get the free one..I picked the free one.

My guess is they will keep it more or less the same for these new races. What would be really nice is if they made race specific mounts for Paladins and Warlocks. Id love to see a ram mount in the gold paladin armor...and a Felmechanostrider would be so awesome I don't have the words to describe it.

I've never been one to care about power-leveling. I have a lot of fun with questing and exploring.

When I was leveling Jax everyone in the guild was all "Level faster! We need a lock for our instance playing!"

I took my time, had a lot of fun, and guess what? They still needed a lock when I got there. All I lost was a few weeks of running Scholo. I've still run it a dozen or more times, so don't really feel cheated

Level 70 will be the same way. I'll level Jax first, running through the questlines. The new instances will still be there once I've done the quests and poked around Outland for a while. I'm not in that big a hurry to exhaust the game's possibilities.

The one thing that would make me unhappy would be if they make Outland this big PvP zone, so that you have to travel in an armed band to get anything done. If that happens Outland can bite me.

I agree with Cana - leveling in a zone with 1 or 2 wingmen, killing everything to and from a quest objective (I call it clear cutting through the zone) is the best way to xp up. I don't agree with solo grinding, it leaves you too open to downtime and inefficiency. (Unless you are a hybrid class).

The best grinding crew I've had was with tank, healer, dps trio:

Tank - Paladin or Warrior
Healer - Druid or Preist
DPS - Everyone else

With three good players - one dedicated to pulling in mobs and the other two killing whatever is brought to kill, you can cut through areas 2-3x faster than individually - and with no downtime.

What I won't do - duo red mobs with my brother because we can... although fun, not the best way to level up in a hurry.

LOL Ok, Lard. But I think there's a bit more truth in what you said than what you meant to say. Or maybe it was planned...muahahaha! You rascal!

You see...if you're in a large guild, and the primary raids are 25 man, essentially the guild will faction off into sub-guilds of the original one. I think Gren makes a good point, IMO, that unless you're in Mike's group, you'll probably be on the B team, even if only due to experience. Feeling like you're not part of the "team" or the viable portion of a guild can have a very demoralizing effect on a group whether they raid or not, especially over a long period of time.

I'm not saying that will happen here. I'm saying it's something we should be mindful of. Like I said, there are some pretty good things that can come out of concurrent raiding parties. Many here in HotC are limited in when they can raid due to that crazy real life thing, or the fact that the majority of people are on the east coast which can leave Left Coast, Europeans and Aussies all discomboobulated when it comes to timing. And more groups mean more room for rogues & mages to play! (WTB Droods)

Leri, we have run concurrent ZG instances with our guild. We generally purposefully seed the "A" team over both groups. I think in your scenario you worry about all the newer players/alts/screwoffs all getting lumped into a secondary raid. That sounds more like a guild planning issue than anything else. I doubt your leadership would see that as a way to keep the guild healthy, at any rate.

IMO it all comes down to avoiding any action that doesn't result in xp being gained... riding your mount doesn't get you xp, shopping in AH doesn't get you xp, drinking water and eating food doesn't get you xp.

Talking about leveling doesn't get you xp.

The best groups fall into a rhythm - moving across the zone without much more than the odd ping on the minimap. Something my brother and I did to save on time: if one of us saw a quest mob - whoever saw it would start jumping up and down while moving to engage. Something I still do to this day... but no one knows why I am hopping.

I don't think it will be as big an issue as people think.

We have *many* more seasoned 20-man raid leaders than we do 40-man raid leaders. Think "Ralex in AQ20" or "Waib in ZG," etc. I suspect even more people will step up when it is the priority, as opposed to a diversion.

Grinding mobs is by far the fastest way to level bar none. Its faster than questing and grinding instances.

There is a reason non-english speaking WoW players level to 60 faster than anyone and why they always have more BoE - Rares/Epics on the AH.

The farmers can't read english. I knew of a known farmer based on the listing on AH. So, I put them on my friends list. Next day saw them online and started to track them (Felwood). I went to the two areas I would go if I was a farmer: Elemental Cave>Water Elementals>Fire Elementals =and= Demons in the NW corner of the zone.

I found my little friend, NE Hunteress....go figure, in between the Tree dudes and the Fire elementals. All this Hunter did was kill anything that moved. Bear? Dead. Wolf? Dead Tree? Dead. Water elemental? Dead.

When he/she realized I was there and that I was tagging mobs too, he/she trained everything on me to get me to go away. Unlike most farmers I run into, this farmer was really good at training and feigning death.

The point is, I used that philosophy and what finnion describes and it just works the best for xp:time spent.

You get two druids to work together? Forget about it.

Ye gods, say it isn't so.

In any case. Agreed with you wholeheartedly - that's what any guild has to worry about, is to make sure the "A" players are distributed evenly among the multiple groups. I think if a guild's (not necessarly HotC, but any larger guild will face this...) teams are skilled evenly, there will be less cause for grumblefarts (my new invented word...like it?).

My head is a bit off this morning...it's either the no pop situation...or...it's the omg you had a bit too much to drink last night you got drunk then sobered then stayed up for a few more hours situation...

You sobered up before going to sleep? Nub. ;)

So this has been a really sad two weeks of wow. 3 of my favorite people from my guild have decided to quit the game to various degrees. Two of which were the GL and co-GL. What's funny is that neither was a raid leader, so our raids have continued albeit with less zeal.

Succulent is my hordeside guildmistress, so it was nice to meet her in person. I haven't been able to make it to any of the guild IRL gatherings. Slaire and I tried to buy her dinner. She wasn't having any. Makes it hard to be chivalrous... saves money though. ;)

We DID buy something from the booth to make up for the time we pulled her away from "work". Although... creepy dudes hanging around booths and ogling pretty girls is kinda what conventions are all about. Well, that and some gaming.

I think you might be misquoting me. What I said last night in BWL was:

"Don't make me do anything important. Every time I screw up, Frank punches me in the eye. I ONLY HAVE 2 EYES!"

This quote came from AQ20 when someone got the brilliant idea to let me, the Queen of Misdirection ("Your OTHER left, honey"), try to find the crystal nodes for Ossy. No pressure, ofcourse. Yah...that works.

The new AQ20 quote has something to do with Aorta dropping the phone on his balls and making us laugh so hard we can't see our monitors because we're all crying from laughter.

Pass the pen there Billy Bob, I'll write us up a song
Or perhaps I'll pen a sonnet, if the melody sits all wrong

Hand me down a crayon, and I'll draw a mighty oak
'Cause of all my brother Masons, I'm the quickest with a joke

Catch me in the right light, you'll see my shapes shaped to please
And if I shank my trousers down, I'm hung just above the knees

You may have difficulty catchin' breath, when you hear my weighty name
I'm the one that told you, told you so, they calls me Puddin' Taine

Now step on up to dance the dance, and touch the hand that heals
Like the tallest hog on Wall Street, I'm a wheelin' all the deals

They'll carve my face in marble, they'll etch my name in stone
They'll paint my noble portrait, and historify my home

You may have difficulty catchin' breath, when you hear my weight name
I'm the one that told you, told you so, they calls me Puddin' Taine

Just a few seconds away from everyone
From everything
Just a few seconds away
A second of your time and an inch of my own space

Silence
Quiet
Need a little peace of mind
After all this
After all that you do

Shut it up
Zip it
I need a little time to think
Without all this
Without all that you do

Keep it
Don't want it
Think I'll just go away
Away from here
From you

Time out
Walk it off
Think I need to throw a flag
Just a little break from the games that you play

Just a few seconds away from everyone
From everything
Just a few seconds away
All I want from all of you
Just a few seconds away
Away from this
It's neverending
Just a few seconds away
A second of your time and an inch of my own space

Beat it up
Whip it out
Top it with a little scream
All that you are
For all that you do

Crush it all
Kill it
Calling out my enemy
Don't want anything
I want nothing from you

Dry it up
Baby
Turn around and walk away
Cry your tears
Pussy

Lift it up
Destroy it
Build it up to tear it down
All the little things that make me run away

Just a few seconds away from everyone
From everything
Just a few seconds away
All I want from all of you
Just a few seconds away
Away from this
It's neverending
Just a few seconds away
Just a second of your time and an inch of my own space

Stop talking
Stop bothering me
Just walk away
I've had enough today

I have a life too
I've had enough of you
Feel like screaming
So go the fuck away

Go away
Go away
Go away
Go away

Just a few seconds away from everyone
From everything
Just a few seconds away
All I want from all of you
Just a few seconds away
Away from this
It's neverending
Just a few seconds away
A second of your time and an inch of my own space
