I don't understand it.

This band has everything I usually don't like in music.

Orchestration.
Cheesy Judas Priest style vocals AND a female vocalist.
Bad lyrics.

Anyway, I picked up their cd 'Once' in the ship's store today, it was like $5.99, and for some reason .. all I could think about was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night when I listened to it. I don't know what it is, like I said .. I usually hate this style of music. But it really got my toes tapping for some reason, it's like a nordic opera with guitars. I keep expecting to hear Alucard talk in between songs, seriously. I'm on crack. Gah. I like this album and I don't know why! Someone save me from this ocean hell.

Cheesy music. My friend rates it higher than power metal on the cheese meter. My sister thought it was 80s cartoon theme music. LOL.

lol blacksand, i have about the same problem as you..... normally the type of sound i'd listen to is totally different from nightwish, plus i find their sound to be a bit to commercial (as you said, bad bad lyrics, and did you see one of their video clips??, ugly ugly stuff i tell you.... really bad...)

but somehow, when i should go out and do something like going to the post office or stuff like that and i'm really really pissed off of everything and have absolutely no motivation to do what i should, when i then listen to nightwish, it really motivates me.... don't ask me why, very strange, i feel this energy coming to me.....

you know, in potato chips there is a substance (forgot the name) which makes you eat more potato chips (eat one eat all), maybe nightwish found a way to get people addicted to their music :yech:
